Twisted Cyclone 🚓 6,261 February 7, 2015 Share February 7, 2015 This is another drawing of my OC Sun Flower. This time she's watering some flowers. Honestly I'm not too proud of this drawing despite not using any references or bases which is something I've rarely done. 7 Country and Rock fan | Car fan (especially police cars) | Weather Pony | YouTube | Twitter | DeviantART

Admiral Regulus 2,769 February 7, 2015 Share February 7, 2015 (edited) I think I know why this reminds me of watermelon. I know I mentioned that before as a joke, but there is actually a similarity. The shape you use for your pony's body is vaguely similar to that of a watermelon. It's an oval, kinda like that. This is fine if it's the look you're going for, but it kinda stands out to the eye. That's because the characters on the show aren't shaped like that. Instead, the shape of most ponies on the show is more like a peanut or a lima bean. Notice that the body can be represented by two circles: one above the front legs, and one above the hind legs. The circle above the hind legs is quite a bit bigger than the one above the front. The back, where the spine would be, is curved. It's concave, not convex. The highest point of the outline of the back is near the plot (or butt, if you prefer), and it's lower where it meets the neck. The underside isn't significantly curved between the front and back legs. Another way to think this would be to imagine a table. Two spheres are sitting on the table, and a cloth is draped over them. The flat surface of the table would represent the underside of the belly (relatively flat), and the two spheres would represent the body over the front and back legs. The curve the cloth would form over top of those two spheres would be the outline of the spine. This is what I'm talking about. The body is composed of two circles, not one elliptical. You can see where the "table" would be the object in blue, and the spheres would be the two circles in pink. The body forms the shape of a cloth draped over it. Hope that helps. I'm not an artist myself, so I bet someone else could probably explain this a little better.
