So in growing closer to God, we can grow closer to humanity in a way.

 

Some would say that's entirely the point, that the two are not dissimilar. Jesus said "what you do to the least of my brothers, you do unto me." Which is to say that if God is in everyone and we are all a part of God, than hurting someone isn't just hurting that person, it's an attack on God.
