Celestia's use of EoH vs. Mane six use of EoH

When Celestia used the Elements of Harmony it sent her sister to the moon for 1000 years. But when the mane six used it, it instantly calmed Nightmare Moon down to revert to Luna which would of been the desired effect.

 

Was the mane six just much better at controlling the Elements of Harmony? Even with less experience in it's use the mane six saved 1000 years of grief for Celestia and Luna.

Quite likely that Celestia's use of the elements was a move of pure desperation and she had little to no control over all of them and the result was the banishing of Nightmare Moon to the Moon.  

 

Perhaps, and I think this is probably the case, the elements being shared among six different ponies provided a much greater control and finesse when wielding the elements.

Agreed. There's not much friendship when you're solo, but 6 is another thing entirely. Perhaps this might mean the Mane 6 are even more powerful than Luna + Celestia with the Elements.

Celestia was trying to channel all six elements at once. She may be powerful, but I doubt she would have been able to draw out anywhere near enough of the Element's power alone. At best she might have been able to channel anywhere from half to a quarter of their full power.

 

In the Mane 6's case though, dividing the Elements between individual bearers allows them to use the Elements to their full power. Same thing when Luna and Celestia each had half of the Elements.
