Tsukuyomi-MLP 33 September 5, 2015 Share September 5, 2015 Title says all. Is there anyone here besides me that uses LINE? It's basically the same thing as Skype, but I prefer LINE because LINE has no ads on it. Well, they do have ads, but not in the same way that Skype does it. Skype is very in-your-face about their ads, LINE, well they prefer to have the "ads" be more in the form of offers with LINE Coins as rewards (eg, "watch this video and get 1 LINE Coin", or "download this app and get 10 LINE Coins"). LINE is very popular in Japan, but not really well known outside of Japan. And for those of you wondering, yes I do have a LINE account myself. I may or may not share my LINE ID to people if they ask, just not on a public post over here. 2 Today's Kanji | Japanese Word of the Day (by Jaxsie)

FlyingChicken 154 September 5, 2015 Share September 5, 2015 To answer your question, Yes. I have line. It's very popular in *Asia*, but do I prefer it more than Skype? No. Because in the term of usefulness. Skype won that by a mile. Also, many friends I have, live overseas. They use Skype and that's why I use Skype. But to clarify this. It really pretty much depends on the local usage. If my people use Whatsapp. I would probably have to use it too, because otherwise I can't contact them. 2 My DA gallery! Click above! Empty Room 512 September 6, 2015 Share September 6, 2015 I use Skype everyday and I don't see ads pushed in my face. They're not a big deal; you don't have to click them, do you? Back on topic, no. I don't use it, though I probably would if I actually knew people that did. "Have you ever felt the need to see more than you can see?"
Tsukuyomi-MLP 33 September 6, 2015 Author Share September 6, 2015 (edited) I use Skype everyday and I don't see ads pushed in my face. They're not a big deal; you don't have to click them, do you? Regarding the ads in Skype - I'll admit it could be worse, but it's still an annoyance for me (might not be for other people). The last straw for me was when I was playing a game of Civ V with a friend voice chatting through Skype. Suddenly, on my end, the call was interrupted by an ad which had video AND AUDIO. For a few moments I looked stupid while I scrambled to get the ad to stop, and about half an hour later I was scrambling again as another video ad with audio had popped up. Now, to be fair to Skype, this happened a few years ago when they were first getting started with ads, and it only happened once or twice and hasn't happened since. Still, it left enough of a bad taste in my mouth that I'd avoid using Skype if only I could. Back on topic, no. I don't use it, though I probably would if I actually knew people that did. That seems to be the issuie I'm having at the moment. I want to switch to LINE completely and stop using Skype, but all my friends here in the USA use either Skype or FaceBook and really aren't open to making a LINE account by reason of "I have Skype so what's the point". On the other hand, all my friends in Japan use LINE, but they rarely get in touch with me nowadays so that doesn't really help any.
