Thunder Dash - The Last Survivor [Sad/Ambient/Improv]

Courageous Thunder Dash

Recommended Posts

So, this piece was made with my new Korg Kronos keyboard. I recorded using a new app I found for iphone and added extra stuff in Audacity.

This piece is about Fluttershy finding out she's the last survivor of a shipwreck and has to deal with this tragedy. Headphones are highly recommended.

The music itself is very well done and soothing, but the voice clips feel a bit too randomly placed and tend to clash with the music. When the first one played, it actually slightly jump-scared and confused me. I was like "Was that supposed to be vocals?", and then when the next one came I realised you were just putting samples of Fluttershy over the song. However, I can picture the scenario in my head, and hearing Fluttershy cry is deeply saddening. They do add to the emotion of the music, certainly, but they did seem slightly spontaneous. I think I'd like to hear this without the samples; it would make a very nice song to relax to.

Ok. The thing I did here was order the clips from when Fluttershy wakes up from her coma on the island, to ending when she literally cries herself to sleep. I was thinking of adding more sound effects to make the location more accurate. I understand what you're saying about the clips, and that they seem random. I remember that for next time. The thing is, the show has not really had some long solo crying clips, which makes it quite difficult for me to make emotional tracks like this.

I actually do have one without the quotes.

No conversion necessary. This sounds really nice. :)

On a slightly different subject, for some reason I can't send you a private message on these forums, and I don't really prefer handing out my Skype, but I actually have a question regarding music, if that's okay. ^^

Ok, I may be able to answer it here, or you could leave it on my wall.

All right, a short question. Let's say I'm just playing something in the key of D#, and I do the ye olde four chords of pop with I - V - vi - IV. So we've got D#, Bb, Cm, and Ab if I'm understanding all of this right; if I said something wrong feel free to correct me. ^^ After that I go to V, so returning to Bb. After that I switch it up slightly and play a Db/C# chord then return back to my vi chord, maybe playing it as a Cm7. What, exactly, would this sort of thing be referred to as? Temporary tonicization? Modulation?

Also, if I was just writing down my chord progression (I - V - vi - IV), how would that sort of thing be indicated in the chord progression itself?

It's better to write that in E-flat. And that's perfectly fine. What you did there was play the flat 7 of Eb.

So, here's what you can do.

I-V-bVII-vi-IV-V

Ah, I see. ^^ so I'd just refer to it as a flat 7th. Thanks! A small question based on that, what in particular determines if I call it the key of D# or the key of Eb? In both cases they're the exact same chords (as far as I can tell). Is it just because my chord progression goes downwards (towards the left of the piano) and not upwards (towards the right)?

EDIT: My guess right now is that I'd write the D# as Eb because I'm writing the other chords as flat. I could either change the D# to Eb, or I could change all the other chords to sharps; in this case, the former is the simplest solution.

The thing is, D# Major is a super rare key, because then you'll be facing not one but two double sharps, where a note is raised up a whole step. It's why Eb Major is the preferred key. Better to write it in Eb. It's much easier. Trust me.

I just looked up double sharps and it seems a little convoluted. So! I'll take your advice and stick with calling it Eb major, thanks. ^^

  • 2 weeks later...

i definitely like the piano work but the sound clips of fluttershy arent really my thing they're cool but just not my style otherwise very soothing and calming! excellent work

Thanks! The Fluttershy clips were part of the story behind the song. They were sort of experimental.
