Making a good description?

Gosh, that is a hard question to answer, and the answer depends on the exact nature of your story. Descriptions can (and do) take a long time to develop and write, and I would know! But to cite some general tips, understand that the purpose of a description is to a pique a reader's interest and encourage them to keep reading. To that end, a common way writers do this is to mention the main characters and hint at the conflict in the story they have to face, if not state it outright. If a reader is interested in what you've hinted at in the description, they'll read the story proper to get the full story and see how it resolves.

And for the love of Celestia, proofread your description before publishing your story. There is nothing more alienating to a potential reader than a typo in a description. If you can't care to cultivate and proofread the text in your description, how can you expect readers to believe the story itself will be any better?
