One character I've wanted explored more since the first episode we've seen her is Zecora. She is certainly a mysterious character, one that sticks to the Everfree forest in near solitude, and in both the show and the comics has revealed she is well versed in magics that even Twilight is unfamiliar with. She may be a lot older than we initially thought as well since she has a connection to Discord.

"Why don't you ask your "Zebra"  friend" -Discord

(Note that Discord and Zecora are on First name basis in PRIVATE, but when Discord talks about her to Twilight its "ask your Zebra friend")

Speculation on Zecora being over a thousand years old aside, it was this season finale that had some actual in show intrigue about her character. Specifically in the alternate timeline. In that timeline Zecora became the leader of the ponies, working on protecting them and raising up a resistance against the changelings. She seemed to know exacty what to do, even though she was fighting a losing battle.

"But how does this mean she is connected to the tree of harmony?" you ask me. Well The first thing I'd like to point out is she resides within the everfree forest for an entirely unexplained reason, and like the above pictures point out she has probably been there for a LONG time. One other thing that has been there for an extremely long time is the Tree of Harmony itself. Zebra's are the only other race we know of at the moment that has cutie marks, and I have a feeling that these types of cutie marks, be the Zebra or pony, are connected to Harmony and the tree itself. The most intriguing thing about her mysterious connection to the Everfree and possibly the Tree of harmony comes in this little moment

That glow right there is probably one of the most interesting clues to her connection to the tree out of any of the others so far. That salve that she put on Spike and Twilight was supposed to reveal the truth, including the changelings disguises. From the reaction of everyone involved and her subsequent explanation, Glowing hadn't ever happened when it was applied. Zecora explains that this means that they are the ones who are from the real and 'true' timeline and they are the ones who are false.

Or the way I see it, The tree sent Zecora a very blatant message through the two of them that They are working on its behalf to fix the timeline and Zecora is to help her by any means possible.

Could they be working up to revealing something interesting about Zecora in this up coming season? Is she some kind of Guardian of the tree, which is why she lives in the forest knows all these things in the first place? How long do you think she has been there given her apparent affiliation with Discord (even though he was in stone for a thousand years and hasn't had any on screen interaction with him, yet they are on first name basis, AND Discord doesn't want that info known given the "ask your Zebra friend" line ) ?

I can imagine Zecora having affiliation to the tree or an organization of agents that protected the tree and facilitated it's purpose. I didn't read that comic strip you put up because it's irrelevant to the show.

Or, you know, Zecora could just prefer living in a secluded, wilder area like the Everfree. She's bound to know of Discord, I doubt that at this point there are many that pay attention that don't know of him, and Discord would know of Zecora due to most likely having been told, probably by Fluttershy.

Could there be more to it? Yes, but I find it unlikely that we will see it in the show. The first name basis seems only to be comics anyway, and they wont be referenced on the show, and as for a potential message to Zecora from the tree, well, things would have gone differently in the alternate timeline. It's possible she found the tree then, but hasn't on the prime timeline.

But most likely it's just a plot point that wont be explained.

It'd be a shame to leave all that potential to go to waste though. Her knowledge in magic, the fact she lives in the everfree in relative solitude for no really explained reason, these little moments in the comics and the show; There is potential for a great number of plot twists involving her character and none of them would break logic or lore in any way. She's a veritable melting pot of interesting ideas to draw from if only they utilized her for an episode or two.

Its not like they haven't expanded minor details into full on episodes. Amending Fences was one of the best episodes of the last season because it drew off a minor scene and expanded on it to explore more about Twilight as a character. You could do the same for Zecora, the pieces are there to put together. I'm hoping they do, because that would be a very interesting episode indeed.
