MasterCombine 316 April 30, 2012 Share April 30, 2012 (edited) Hey, all. So I'm definitely going to be writing a fanfic in the near future, and I have a couple of ideas right now. However, I'm not sure which one I should focus on first. Off the top of my head, it's between these: Very Vague Descriptions: 1) Epic Adventure: Takes place in an alternate universe, quasi-sci-fi (Or probably just sci-fi, actually) industrial Equestria. Over the last several decades, a growing population and rapidly-decreasing resources has led to a massive movement to colonize the unexplored lands to the west of Equestria. Fed up with the increasingly heavy-handed policies of Celestia and her government, many Equestrians see the west as a source of new opportunity, a place where they can begin new lives free from constraint or oppression. But things are not always as they seem. In the present day, fifteen years after the cataclysmic end of a war between the Celestine and Griffon Empires, much of the land around Canterlot is left poisoned and tainted, forming a literal divide between east and west. Individuals privileged enough to reside behind Canterlot's perimeter wall or in the floating cities dotting the sky live lives of decadence and ease. On the western front, however, a new faction has arisen: The Lunar Confederacy, a group backed by none other than the moon princess herself, determined to right the wrongs of the past and bring back equality for all. An archaeological discovery on the edge of the western territories, one that could shed light on the origins of the world itself, raises tensions to never-before-seen heights, finally resulting in the all-out war that so many have hoped to avoid. As the Celestine military marches west to quell the uprising, three ponies from very different walks of life find themselves caught in the middle of the conflict, facing plots and powers the likes of which they never could have imagined. 2) Zombie Outbreak: Far simpler than the last. In the wake of a mysterious pandemic sweeping Equestria, a young university student living in Seaddle must travel north in search of a safe haven. But when the world around him is falling apart at the seams, when vice, corruption, and death lurk around every corner, what hope is there for survival? *** *** *** So yeah, there you have it. The first idea is no doubt quite ambitious (Actually both probably are), which certainly raises questions as to whether or not I could pull it off. To which I answer: Lol, IDK, maybe. I am a novice writer (Really, really, really novice; I've never really written an official story before), but the desire to write these ideas (One or both) burns brightly in my soul like the flames of a thousand suns. Okay, maybe not like that, but I would most certainly like to do so. I also have about 2500 words of what I imagine would be the prologue for the first story written (Though I'm not promising that they're amazing or anything). Both stories would most likely involve OC characters meeting and mingling with canon characters, so if that's not your thing I apologize. The first story would be told in third person, while the second story would most likely be told in first person. Both would definitely be considered dark (with the second idea crossing over into Grimdark territory), and the zombie story would not shy away from scenes of (necessary) gore. Anyway, I thank you for reading this, and any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Edited April 30, 2012 by MasterCombine
Strafe 594 April 30, 2012 Share April 30, 2012 I like the first idea better, it sounds more original. I too am trying to decide on weather or not I should write a fan-fic for I have a pretty good idea that needs to be handled properly. "The Gods envy us. They envy us because we’re mortal, because any moment might be our last. Everything is more beautiful because we’re doomed. You will never be lovelier than you are now. We will never be here again." Page.Turner 940 May 1, 2012 Share May 1, 2012 The first idea seems pretty tangible... but I'm going to have to throw my vote at Zombie Outbreak. I believe there is more opportunity to go epic with the first story simply because there is just SO much to work with, but I'm biased. I've seen too many pony war stories (personally) that it's left me kind of "Eh" on the subject. But at the same time, it's always interesting to see how someone else might view pony-law and such. HMMMMMMM! I dunno, I think a zombie outbreak could potentially become an epic adventure in itself anyway, since the character would have to travel to a haven. ...
