He then walked into the building as well.

"Alright everyone, before i get my plan started, how many ranged soldiers do we have?" Caerson asked to everyone.

'Maple' walked up to him "Around 12 of them. We should be able to take a good number of them down before they can start firing again if we volley the attacks correctly. But what's your plan?" 'She' awaited his response patiently.

Shining was listening too waiting on this plan of his.

"That volley attack would sound good in theory, but it would give up our only advantage. All we have to do is stay fortified and do not engage towards them. Hear me out on this one, because you could learn a thing or 2 about this. When we remain fortified, it will turn into a stalemate, and if we keep this up long enough, the enemy will grow impatient and try a differen't approach, and i think we all know what that one is, attack head on. The moment their split forces would engage us, we defend this place to the very teeth, meanwhile during the battle we sent out some scouts who will try to look for an opening on where we could escape.  Our enemies will be so occupied with attacking that position, that we can slowly make our escape from that place and fall back.   It might not be so glorified as trying to kill all of them, but it will casualties on our side will be reduced by a milestone." Caerson said.

"Right," Shining said "That's a common tactic in the crystal empire since it's a hot spot for attacks from the frozen north." He explained as his horn started to glow. "Twilight... Do you think the building will hold up?"

"If there's an explosion..." Twilight hesitated before answering pacing a bit "No... But other than that it should work." Twilight recalled her drone, which had collected several blood samples. "There we go."

"Thank you, Twilight." Caerson said as he collected the blood samples.

He was then thinking for a moment.

"We could create additional means for cover and protection. We should dig some trenches, it is an old school method of warfare that has always been proven useful. My drones can get that job done, but I might need some additional help for that to speed up the process, any volunteers?" Caerson asked.

There were a few who raised hoofs to help. Around 30 or so Shining armor included in that group. HE walked up "Just let me know how I can help!"

Twilight was messing with her drone thing again "How do you make it do that? I'm trying to figure it out..." She kept examining it like she had no idea what she was looking for or at. It was notable that she had changed the drone to look like her color pallet light purple with dark purple and a pink streak on it.

"I want you and a couple of unicorns to act as support during the digging process. Patrol around the area's and whenever you notice enemies firing upon us, I want you and the other unicorns to create magical shields around us because it would be right to assume our enemies has snipers stationed upon those hills." Caerson said to Shining Armour.

"I want you and you and your squad to use the advantage of your shapeshifting capabilities, turn into something that blends well with the overall environment since your squad will be acting as watchers to spot any enemies who would dare to come nearby, if they are in really small groups, feel free to engage, but keeping yourselves hidden and alive is your main priority." Caerson said to the Changeling squad leader.

"And for your squad, defend the perimeter and engage any enemies that dare to get close to this town, scoop up any allies that are unable to retreat, and if they send in bigger strains, it would be preferable if you and your squad engage those first considering your overall superiority in strength compared to most of us." Caerson said to the Dragon squad leader.

"For you, you are to keep morale high and watch over the overall defences inside the buildings, if capable, send out some soldiers when things get too dangerous." Caerson said to the disguised 'Maple'.

He then turned to Twilight.

"That would require a bit of help from me, i think you are going to need a device that is capable of sending out orders to your drones via preferred signals, it will make it easier for you since you can now only do limited things with what you know at the moment, let me do this one for you." Caerson said to Twilight as his bionic eye started to give a few beeps, in which Twilight's drone also did the same amount of bleeps.

"There you go, now command it like you usually do, all i did was give it some pointers in its database." Caerson said as he then turned around to the others again.

"It is time everyone, may Equestria live long and prosper." Caerson said as he made a small bow out of

Twilight pressed a button and the drone flew out above the buildings keeping an eye on their enemies for them as they set up.

The dragon's leader decided to voice an opinion "Well that's fine and all but why would they have larger strains? We would've noticed them by now..."

Shining had already left and was watching and listening carefully for any gunshot sounds or attackers.

The Griffon's Leader walked over to the "What do you need us to do?"

"A good point you make there, but they are no fools, chances are very big they have them, but if they would have brought them in the open by now, we could have killed those, and they are aware of that, presumably keeping back the stronger strains behind their lines while they use their normal soldiers both as shock troopers and fodder, and when they have a chance to strike, they would unleash a great portion of them all at once, which could prove very deadly if they where to be paired with their regular soldiers." Caerson told the dragon leader.

He then looked at Griffon leader.

"I want you and your men to split up into 2 groups, each group hides at a different location, when the enemies end up attacking, you all perform hit and run attacks, then constantly change the hiding spot everytime your men fall back, attacking them at sides where they not expect would be the smartest move to make, hence this method." Caerson told him.

The Dragon's leader shrugged "Well it doesn't matter WHEN they bring them we'll take care of them." He said as he ordered his dragons to their places the stronger ones that resembled torch in ways the 4-legged bulky ones where heading to the edge of the town.

The griffon leader agreed with the plan, "Right sounds good! We're on it!" She orders the griffons around for a bit many of them taking cover in the buildings around the one everyone else was in them were ready to strike at the first sight of enemies.

Moonshadow, who was still MApel was looking around helping anyone who looked scared or nervous about fighting. "It'll be alright just do your best and don't take fights you can't handle and you'll make it through this!" 'She' was telling them

Caerson then walked outside his building.

While his drones and other people were working in the trenches, he was setting up some sort of weapon, and also placed a remote explosive on the ground as traps, that he would detonate whenever enemies would get near it.

'Everything is turning out good so far, it shouldn't be much longer before they attack I presume.' Karthspire thought.

'Maple' walked over to him "Alright I did my best to encourage them. What else can I help with?" 'She' asked, "There's so much I feel I could be doing." 'She' Started to whisper "Should I change back into actually me or stay like this?"

"Yes, it is better if you change back to your normal self, it is too dangerous to fight in that disguise when you could accidentally revert back during the battle." Caerson whispered back.

"It might be best if you assist the dragons, preferably if you target the smaller enemies since the dragons will be focusing on the bigger strains specifically." Caerson said to 'Maple' with a nod.

It was about 15 minutes later that the trenches where done.

Caerson then walked up to Shining Armour.

"Now that we are done with trenches, it would be best if you would handle the defences in the trenches, you would be most qualified for that in my opinion. Speaking of which, do you know where Applejack and Rainbow Dash are? I am aware where Twilight is tough." Caerson said to him

Moonshadow looked around and saw no one was looking and changed back to his original form "Well I got it. Those soldiers won't know what hit 'em." He said storming off to help them.

Shining nodded "I'd assume you'd know where Twi was... I think I saw AppleJack inside the building and Rainbow's up in the sky so just call her down here."

"Rainbow, could you continue watching the skies? If you see any enemy's coming towards us, feel free to take them out!" Caerson called out from below.

He then walked over to Applejack.

"Applejack, could you look for any survivors in the town? I think there are still bound to be some civilians hiding in basements or in attics. I do believe Hollow Shades was a town that was a Bat pony settlement correct? Then it would be likely." Caerson told her.

He then eventually walked over to Twilight.

"Twilight, i have a special task for you, could you man my gun drones? I think you are aware of how they work? There are 2 who have an attached machine gun but there is also a sniper drone among the bunch, we are really going to need those since we lack additional firepower compared to our enemy at the moment." Caerson said.

Rainbow had already been doing that. "Don't worry the skies are clear since I'm up there." She flew up into the air quickly and watched for anything approaching feeling confident in herself being able to take down whatever came her way.

Applejack liked the new plan "ah'm gonna take some other ponies with me might need to extra horsepower." She shouted to the others "Ah need a few ponies to come with me we need ta search for survivors." 

Twilight didn't know how to control weapons but she could figure it out on her own. "I've got this not to worry!"

Caerson started to wander through the town.

Eventually, he found a good spot and waited.

It was about 20 minutes later when suddenly something bad happened.

A hailstorm of enemies suddenly started to charge the town from almost every angle.

The front attackers where infected, while the soldiers were standing from a distance to fire their weapons from afar.

They where numbering in terrifying numbers, alot more then what would have been presumed from an attack force that came from the hills.

Larger strains were also among the enemy lines, but there was a mob of 6 ones heading straight in the front direction, but luckily they were unarmoured.

Caerson looked into the distance as the enemies were swarming the down.

"So it comes back to this, a never-ending battle as our enemies number like stars, while we stand strong among the pluage, that is our fate, and so I will carry that one into death, as my last rites." Caerson said in some sort of mutter.

He then drew his revolver and started firing at far away enemies.

The Dragons were taking a lot of damage so they started to back up heading to the others quickly "They're a lot stronger than I expected before." The leader said with several wounds. "Everyone be ready they're going all out on this assault."

The griffons where still lying in wait for the enemies to show up while the ponies where waiting on them to get any amount closer so they could fire what they had as ranged weapons.

"Agreed, even I am unnerved by their current numbers, this ambush was not a fast setup, this was an orchestrated one like someone had been expecting us to arrive here." Caerson says with a frown.

"Stay close to the others in the trenches, I will find a way to deal with those bigger ones myself." Caerson said to the dragon leader as he headed inside the building where the others where.

"They will be getting close in about 30 seconds, get in positions, for those who will not be fighting, stay close to each other, and protect the children as a first priority." Caerson said to everyone.

The front line infected where sprinting straight towards the trenches and the buildings, while the second line of soldiers were doing mixed combat tactics of firing from afar and hit and run attacks, shooting towards their enemies and quickly retreating back shortly after.

The dragon's leader shouted several orders "Make sure the attacks from a long range don't hit the ponies they can't handle damage as well as we can so take as much of it as you can!"

Shining armor and the other ponies started shooting magic or other ranged weapons like bows at the enemies approching the lines quickly.

The Infected were taken a good amount of casualties as the Equestrians were firing their ranged weapons.

It was certainly enough to keep the infected at bay, but the ranged enemy soldiers were still proving to be a danger as they where in so many numbers, which made it hail with bullets across the battlefield.

Caerson then saw the right moment "Now Griffons, engage the ranged soldiers!" Caerson called out, seeing as those ranged soldiers had no proper melee weapons except for their fist and knives wich the had to switch weapons in order to do that, but by that time the griffons would already be long upon them.

Hundreds of griffons suddenly attacked the enemies coming from different directions. Taking down a good number of the shooters but an amount of griffons get hurt too.

Moonshadow changed himself into a unicorn summoning a magic bow and firing it several times to help out Shining Armor and Twilight were also using a lot of magic attacks as well.

The enemy soldiers were now moving closer together as the Griffon's where tearing through their ranks overtime, while the infected were kept at bay alot easier now thanks to the overall interference of the Griffons.

While the enemy was not close to losing the battle, it was getting there slowly.

Caerson had joined the fray as well, being a bit more in his own regarding cover as he kept firing from distance.

He suddenly remembered something as he quickly remembered something and ran back inside.

"Applejack, did you and your group have any luck yet?" He called out.

AppleJack nodded to him " We found a few survivors none of them are in good shape... We need to get them outta here an' fast."

Rainbow flew down "Fast? I'm on it!" Rainbow dash picked up one of the survivors and flew off a long ways away." Coming back nearly instantly "Another please."

"Good work, soon we will be needing to make an escape point, we are holding our own so far but that doesn't mean we will be safe for long. Might be best if you help out Rainbow Dash with the survivors, I am going to join them on the battlefield." Caerson as he started running towards the others.

Or rather, that is what he would have done if he didn't hear a loud roaring from far away.

He started running to the other side of town when he suddenly saw something big.

It was a creature that had a similar build to Tyrannosaurs but had no arms, and it was slightly bigger, machinery was added to its back.

Along with this really big strain creature, a big group of infected was swarming behind it.

Caerson cursed loudly.

'I will have to take this one on my own it seems, the others are too busy fighting on the other side of town.' Caerson thought.

He quickly duck behind cover and was waiting for the right moment, the creature din't seem to have spotted him as it was firing massive fireballs out of its mouth.
