Are the show's villains too easy to defeat?

Well firstly none of them are dead, which means all *cept NNM who is now forseeably ever Luna* have the opportunity to come back. Discord is heavily hinted to be coming back, and Chrysalis, who knows. As for the fact that even the biggest villains are disposed off in two episodes max, eh. The show may have continuation but for the most part each episode is stand-alone. I think it's long enough as it is that they have to be continued episodes for the main villain confrontations. Longer than that, might become dragged out.

Something they could do is simply not have them 'defeated' defeated, but have them retreat, to come again later in the season. That, would be cool.

true but i still feel theres room for a sephiroth kinda villain or something also it has to be male cuz there are very few male Leads in the show to relate to.

For season three, they should put in a villain during the first episode that occasionally shows up again from time to time, messing with the mane six, and only gets defeated near to the final episode.

Chrysalis defeated Celestia.

That's a pretty big feat.

We all remember that fateful crown drop across the floor.

Well you might see Discord return next season so that's something right? Honestly, I don't think there really is a need for a recurring villain if the type of story telling has already been set and working wonders.

I think the villians are fairly tough, they all have well placed plots in place for sucsess, the issue they ahve is they always overlook thinks like friendship and love, which is the fatal flaw in their plan. Which does add to the messaage of Love and tolerate.

Discord hate the right idea of taking away the values of friendship, his issue was his arrogance which lead to his downfall. I doubt he will be so unprepared next time.

And yeah, Discord's definitely coming back in season three, and there's bound to be other antagonists. Maybe we'll see a return of Trixie, since there are so many fanfics with her and ships of her and Twilight.

Or maybe Gilda?

There was a brilliant fanfic I read about Luna giving the mane 6 a quest of sorts to find out, and 'save', the antagonists that now lay forgotten, Trixie, Gilda, etc.

It was pretty awesome.

I think all the Villains are okay. Maybe in Season 3, villains will return and take over Equestria. Then the main characters try to defeat him? We never know until it comes out.

They should put a recurring villain(NOT EVERY EPISODE, just like 2 or 3 spread out) that they are never able to truly defeat and who is always a thorn in their side (Not Trixie or Diamond Tiara, more like discord).

I only disliked Discord's defeat, he literally let the mane 6 turn him to stone, no resistance or anything, he just let them beat him. Like, c'mon, that was just weak, he should've resisted. Maybe because of time constraints due to how little time they had for the entire plot, of course, it's possible he just didn't think the elements would work. I'm glad he's getting a come back to make up for that tho.

I wouldn't be so brash to call Discord in S3. He will definitely be around, but I would guess S4, as S3 would be too close and ppl would call foul.

Not neccesarily, they just didn't see their defeats coming. I bet never in a million years did Nightmare Moon ever think that her escape and eternal night would be in vain because of the mane 6 defeating her with the Elements of Harmony she thought only the sister she captured could use. And Discord, he thought he could trick and manipulate the mane 6 and hide the elements on them only to have then unable to use them because he brainwashed them to hate each other, but he didn't think Celestia would be smart enough to give Twilight her letters back to remind her of her friends, therefore unbrainwashing her and allowing her to reunite her friends and defeat him. As for Crysalis, she thought she was more powerful than anyone after feeding off Shining Armor's love for Cadance and her defeat of Celestia, but then she laughed at the notion of the couple's love having enough strength to repel her and her army, but then got a big in your face when the love-powered barrier sent her and her underlings flying.

Sure she defeated Celestia, but looking closer at it, it's not that impressive from an individual stand point. Chrysalis is a parasite that steals power from others, so, technically, it's the near omnipotent love of Shining Armor and Cadence that defeated Celestia, not Chrysalis herself. I doubt Chrysalis is more powerful than Celestia just by herself, when not using a power that strong. Which is supported by the fact that Chrysalis was making grunts and other struggling noises when she was facing off against Celestia (whom was utterly calm), and then acted surprised that she overpowered the Princess so easily. Since Chrysalis won't have that power again should she come back, it's safe to assume she won't be as strong as she was in Canterlot Wedding.

In comparison, Discord is the god and spirit of chaos; he walked in and fucked things up without even trying, all through his own power.

Note: Not hatin' on Chrysalis, love her design and all, but, I feel obligated to point this out ;) I don't see parasitic practices for obtaining power as good as the real thing.

All very good points. Chrys' motives were kinda confusing, but very thoroughly-planned, while Disco-err...you, perhaps, ultimately took on the situation at hand. Cockiness aside, that was a pretty good idea and thought-out plan, especially when you did what every good antagonist should do; know as much the heroes' strengths, as much as you know their weaknesses. :3
