Chapter 15: Open Your Heart

"Okay here it goes!" Lee kept his eyes closed and took a deep breath as he began to speak.

"Tempest, I know that I haven't known you that long, but I just wanted to say that I appreciate everything you've done for me... and I was wondering if you wanted to be my marefriend?"

Lee stopped himself as he opened his eyes and groaned at his words.

"No no no, that's too fast... Let me try again!"

Lee tried to start his conversation over, but he kept coming up with bad responses and he still felt that it wasn't right. As Lee continued to fail, Celestia and Luna were both standing behind him as he continued to talk to the tree in front of him.

"Lee, you're going about this all wrong..." Celestia walked over to Lee and placed her wing around him, but Lee brushed it off as he tried yet again.

"Tempest, you are so very beautiful and the most amazing creature in Equestria and I love you so much and I wanna be with you!! Ugh, no that's too much!! She'll never believe that..."

Luna approached him next and she used her magic to make Lee face her, but he simply turned back the other way and tried practicing his words again, which made Celestia and Luna more worried about Lee. 

Lee groaned again after his tenth try and he fell to the ground as he sat against the tree he was talking to.

"Why is this so hard?! Can't you guys help me with this? Surely you two have experience with... this, right?"

Celestia and Luna looked at each other, but they looked back at Lee with confusion and laughed a little.

"Sorry Lee, but we honestly don't know anything about romance... Haven't really experienced it ourselves." 

Celestia nodded her head at Luna's words, but this only made Lee more anxious.

"What?! Even with all your knowledge and endless wisdom, you don't know? Well that doesn't help me at all!" Lee fell back onto his head as he looked up at the skies.

"Hey, we're only 1000 years old! Cut us some slack!" Celestia and Luna laughed together and Lee laughed with them slightly, but still felt pressure inside of him.

Celestia and Luna both laid down next to Lee and he watched his surroundings as he waited for Tempest.

"Look Lee, you just have to speak from your heart about how you feel. Just be yourself and the words you need will flow naturally... and hopefully she's not a tree either."

"Very funny... hehe."

Lee laughed sarcastically at Luna's joke, but she nudged him in the side to cheer him up a bit. Lee felt good that he could talk with the Sisters so easily and he now knew that they were really good friends and mentors for him too.

"We have your back, Lee. No matter what, we're here for you and so is Tempest! Even if she doesn't feel the same as you do, you can still count on her friendship."

Just then, however, Luna heard a voice shouting for her and got up to go back to the top of the hill. Luna saw Tempest with a bag of food and greeted her with a smile.

"There you are Tempest. You were gone a while."

"Sorry about that. Some elderly pony was having trouble getting home so I escorted her..."

Luna smiled at what Tempest did, happy to hear that Tempest was helping other ponies, but she soon turned her attention back to Lee and cleared her throat.

"Somepony's here to see you..."

Tempest gasped at Luna's words and dropped the bag of groceries on the ground as she rushed to the other side of the hill and saw Lee before her.

"L-Lee?! Oh by the stars, LEE!!!" 

Lee looked at Tempest and a huge smile ran across both of their faces. Tempest quickly went down the hill and ran towards Lee, with Lee unsure of what she was doing. The next thing Lee knew, however, he felt a very warm feeling inside as Tempest wrapped her hooves around Lee and held him close to her tightly.

"Lee... Oh Lee, I was so so so SO worried about you, but thank the heavens that you're okay!! Oh, I'm so happy you're okay and I'm so happy that you're here!!"

Tempest continued hugging Lee as a few tears came from her eyes and Lee could only laugh nervously at what was going on. Nonetheless, Lee hugged Tempest back and absolutely loved the warm feeling inside.

Lee released himself from Tempest's grasp so that he could talk to her. Tempest looked at Lee and noticed his new cutie mark on his hip, making her smile widely at Lee.

"Lee, you got your cutie mark? That's so wonderful, but when did you get it and how did you get?"

"Hehe... because of you Tempest. I got it because of you."

R-Really? What do you mean by that?"

Lee decided to change the subject for the moment and looked at Tempest again.

"Tempest... I know that you just got here, but can we talk... alone? Please?"

"O-Of course! Come on, let's go this way!"

Lee and Tempest both walked into the trees together as Celestia and Luna looked at them with happiness and joy. Celestia and Luna hugged each other as felt very happy for both Lee and Tempest.

"After all that Lee has been through, he deserves this. He deserves to be with somepony who loves him and cares for him." Celestia said.

"Lee and Tempest... they're perfect for each other, sister!"

As Lee and Tempest walked past the trees, Lee occasionally looked over at Tempest, but looked away the moment she looked at him. Tempest smiled when he did this and felt a small blush on her face.

After a bit more walking, Lee and Tempest reached a small pond with the bright sunshine shining off the surface, making it glisten like gemstones.

Lee sat down by the water's edge and ran his hoof through the water and felt the cool water on his fur. Tempest sat down next to Lee a moment later, but he remained shy and unsure of what to say.

Lee cleared his throat and looked at Tempest and blushed a little again.

"I-I'm happy that you're here with me, Tempest. I'm always happy whenever... I see you."

Tempest giggled at his comment and scooted a little bit closer to Lee.

"I'm happy that you're here too. You are a really good friend to me Lee and it means more to me than you know..."

Lee looked at his reflection in the water and closed his eyes. He was about to risk his friendship with Tempest and he absolutely did not want to lose Tempest. Lee took a deep breath before he began to speak again.

"Okay... okay okay. Here goes: Tempest, there's something that I need to tell you. Whatever it is you hear, please don't think any less of me..."

Tempest was confused by his words but remained patient as she waited for him to speak.

"Go ahead... I'm listening."

Lee breathed in and out a few more times and decided to take Celestia and Luna's advice and just speak from his heart.

"Okay... Tempest, I know that I haven't known you that long, but you've given more than anypony could ask for: hospitality, friendship and I thank you immensely for everything that you've done for me."

Tempest continued listening as she smiled a bit at Lee.

"You've told me what it is you done in the past, but that didn't matter to me because I know that you're a very kind and generous and friendly and... beautiful pony. After what I had done, I didn't think that I was worthy of such an amazing pony."

"Lee..." 

Tempest tried to interrupt Lee, but he had continued on despite this.

"But, ever since what happened with that madpony, I've just been having all these thoughts and feelings... for you and call me crazy, but the whole time I was unconscious... I only thought of you and no matter what, I... I just couldn't stop thinking about you. And now, all I want to do is tell you... I want to tell you that... that I..."

Lee grasped his head and closed his eyes in confusion as he tried to find the words to say to Tempest. Tempest was merely sitting next to him as she took in all the words he said.

"I-I-I... can't do it! I can't do this, I'm sorry!! Forget all of this, I'm so sorry!"

Lee tried to get up and walk away, but he felt it as Tempest placed her hoof over his and kept it firmly in place, which prevented him from leaving. Lee's heart rate increased and felt sweat on his forehead, but kept his eyes closed nonetheless.

Tempest looked at him, but still noticed that his eyes remained closed.

"Lee... Lee, look at me."

Lee nodded his head as he felt himself shaking with nervousness. He simply couldn't find the strength to look at her at that moment.

"Look at me, please. I swear to you that I'm not angry or upset with you! Lee... please just open up your sweet eyes and look at me. Look at me..."

Lee finally mustered the courage to open his eyes and slowly turned his head to Tempest and saw her smiling as he looked into her teal colored eyes. Tempest did the same and looked into Lee's sky blue eyes, but they both were blushing as they looked into each other's eyes.

"T-Tempest... I..."

Tempest shushed him with her hoof and gently caressed his mane and his cheek with her hoof. The feeling of Tempest's hoof made Lee's heart continue to beat, but simply closed his eyes again as he enjoyed the feeling.

Another giggle came from Tempest, knowing how nervous Lee was, but decided to help calm him down a bit and wrapped her hooves around him again.

"You've done so much for me, Lee. You've been an amazing friend to me, you saved me from Storm and you've made me happier than anypony could ever have. For the first time in my life, I feel... truly happy and you Lee, you give me that happiness."

Tempest nuzzled Lee's cheek and underneath his neck and Lee was blushing red, but Tempest only slightly tightened her hold on Lee. Tempest looked into Lee's eyes again before she smiled very happily at him and moved her lips closer to Lee.

"T-Tempest... uhh..."

Lee could only smile happily at what happened next: Tempest placed her hooves on Lee's hooves and repeatedly kissed him. Over and over, Tempest laid sweet kisses upon Lee's face and cheeks Lee started to lose his balance with Tempest's kisses bearing down on him.

"Tempest... W-Whoa, Tempest?"

Tempest finally pushed Lee to the ground with her kisses, but she only brought her face lower to match his and looked into his eyes again as she nuzzled his snout. Lee laughed as he laid his head against Tempest's soft and fluffy magenta fur which also seemed to smell of berries to him too. 

As he laid his head against her, Lee could swear that he could hear Tempest's heart beating too, but loved the sound nonetheless.

"Y-You're... so warm and fluffy Tempest."

Lee kissed Tempest's torso gently and heard her giggling a little too. Tempest booped Lee's snout and Lee nuzzled her snout in return. Lee loved this feeling and he never felt so happy and safe before, but he absolutely knew that he was at his safest with Tempest.

"Tempest... You are so beautiful and amazing and wonderful... and I know now that I... I love... you. I... love you Tempest."

Lee lowered his head and braced his ears for Tempest's response. Tempest blushed madly at Lee's words and held her tongue to keep her from screaming with joy. She simply moved her lips to Lee's ear and Lee felt as her mane brushed against his face.

"Lee... I love you too, my wonderful pony. You are so wonderful and kind and sweet and you make me feel so happy. I love you, Lee."

Together at the same moment, Lee and Tempest said the sacred words to each other: I love you.

Lee and Tempest wrapped their hooves around each other again and both laid down together, keeping each other warm in their embrace. Lee felt himself getting tired now and yawned a little, but Tempest kissed his cheeks a few more times as Lee laid his head against Tempest's fur again.

"It's okay to sleep, Lee. I'll be right here by your side... my love."

Tempest smiled at Lee as he started to close his eyes to sleep, but not before he kissed Tempest's cheek a few more times and telling her one more time.

"I love you, Tempest. Thank you..."

Lee finally fell asleep and Tempest kissed him once more before getting up and going back to the camp to get Lee a blanket.

Celestia and Luna were sitting by a fire when they saw Tempest walk past them smiling happily and humming to herself. Celestia got up and followed Tempest as she reached into a bag to pull out a blanket.

"Tempest, are you okay? I've never seen you so happy."

"I feel... perfect Celestia. I only just now discovered my love and I've never been happier!"

Tempest started trotting happily in place and pranced all around the fireplace. Celestia and Luna both felt very happy for Tempest, but Celestia looked around for Lee.

"Hey where is Lee?"

"Oh, he fell asleep. I'm just getting him a blanket to keep him warm... and me to keep him warm too. Excuse me you guys, but I gotta get back to my love at once!"

"Oh, okay. Well, we hope you two have a good evening!" Luna said as she and Celestia waved to Tempest.

Tempest continued prancing happily as she walked away, but was eager as ever to return to Lee.

Once she returned to Lee, Tempest saw Lee sound asleep next to the pond. Tempest laid back down next to Lee and wrapped the blanket and her hooves around Lee.

"My love... my Lee. You are mine forever now..."

Tempest finally fell asleep herself as she smiled happily and snuggled closely with Lee and kissed Lee one more time. Lee was also smiling widely and snuggled into Tempest's warm fur.

"Hehe... Love you... Tempest."

I think you built it up very nicely throughout the story. They make an amazing couple!

This was such a cute chapter! It is so satisfying to finally have these two together, seeing this side of Tempest despite her being a tough character!
