I have a question of great intellectual interest I feel you may find intriguing to say the least.

Now in terms of Princess Luna becoming NMM and Sunset Shimmer going rouge every pony is aware of their falls and redemption arc stories.

There in lies my hypothetical question what if the roles of hero and fallen hero had been reversed how do you think the outcome would be?

In other words if you had been the princess to become evil with Princess Luna having to defeat you and with Sunset Shimmer having to defeat Twilight attempting to take over the human realm.
