OverTheStars 93 January 21 Share January 21 (edited) Not sure why, but drawing male ponies feels more difficult...still fun though! Anyways, I imagine he'd be some sort of fighter, probably somewhere outside Equestria? I made his cutie mark a laurel wreath since it'd represent victory or triumph for him, but possibly honor as well. Because of this, I kinda wanted to give him a name based in Greek mythology since they were used in ancient Greek sporting events I think. Laurel is usually associated with Apollo, but I'm not totally sold on making that his name either. Any ideas? UPDATE: After some careful deliberation...I have decided on the name Heracles! Thank you for the helpful and kind comments! Edited January 25 by OverTheStars
Snow 7,126 January 21 Share January 21 Not totally sure but I think having "Laurel" as part of a two part name might work well Awesome artwork as well! 1 beans

Thank you!! I like the idea of Laurel being part of his name too, maybe Laurel would be part of his actuual name and he'd typically go by something else when fighting 4 hours ago, Clawdeen said: He looks awesome! SharpWit 2,682 January 22 Share January 22 Hey! I got one of dem there things on my behind too! Only it comes with a fleur de lis in the center! I don't know why I typed that exactly, couldn't help myself. Anyways, for a specific set of OCs I use latin in part of their names. Vernabt Invictus means "Scarred but Undefeated". You could have something similar with either Greek or Latin for the gladiator/Olympian aspect. Do you have any more backstory for inspiration?

abronymouse 5,501 January 23 Share January 23 if he has a laurel and is a fighter, then he's all about victory greek mythology for victory is Nike, but that got taken over by a brand of shoes so you can't call him that how about Bellerophon? he was one of the heroes aided by Athena (who Nike is often just an aspect of). He also rode Pegasus, so he's already kinda ponyish no Bellerophons on Derpibooru, but here's Athena. She has a broken horn because she's a badass

I don't have his entire backstory worked out, maybe just that he was born outside of equestria and had to turn to fighting in order to support himself. Laurels can resemble honor as well as victory, so I like to imagine there's some angst there...like he interprets his cutie mart to mean that he's destined to a life of fighting/violence when in reality his cutie mark is more of a representation of his sense of honor and his unwillingness to fight dirty or to go after those weaker than him. Incorporating Latin or Greek into his name is a good idea, although I'd have to do more research since I'm not too familiar with the languages. I might look a bit more into more Greek heroes in mythology, but Bellerophon is definitely up there! 1

SharpWit 2,682 January 27 Share January 27 Terrible image of it, but this is the original. It doesn't pop particularly well on my darkened blue coat and my wings obstruct it somewhat. Plus my profile motto is "The best solution is usually theeasiest". Genuine typo, but the message gets across so why fix it. I've never changed my profile pic either, not sure anyone would notice that small of a change unless they read this, so why bother. As for potential names,,, Honor in Greek is Timi, yes like Timmy! So I would guess that's a no unless. There's the name equivalent of Timon like in Lion King. There's also the Greek name of Erhard with the same meaning. @abronymouse mentioned Nike, but you can also get Niki like Nicky, or Nikitus, but I'd argue that sounds better for a changeling, but I'm a little biased after having a huge ramble about chitin earlier this week and the buggy sound is there! Fair is a synonym to honor, but the Greek version of that is pronounced too closely to "ecstacy". "Fair" in Latin gets you Pulchra which doesn't sound great, but "Just" gets you isutice which is pronounced as Eustace, like from Courage the Cowardly Dog. In Latin we have Honestas, which could be shortened and corrupted to sounding like Han for a nickname if Equestrians struggle with it. I'm kind of running out of steam for the time being but pick a direction and I'll take a peak.
