Eldritch 20 June 16, 2012 Share June 16, 2012 This may have been asked elsewhere already, and I apologize for any redundancy. I just couldn't find it in the search. I really love this site, and I want to see it continue to get the funding it needs. Where I can't afford to make a monthly donation (yet! Someday, though...), I'm wondering if there are other small ways I can help out. I have opted in to ads, which don't bother me in the least, but I wonder if there's another way to help leverage that to our advantage. If I were to click an ad when I first hop on the site, for example, is any revenue generated here for that? Is it better to leave the site and come back occasionally, or stay on it for extended periods, even if I'm AFK? And at what point does that start negatively impacting the servers? I really have no idea how ad generated revenue works, but I do want to make whatever small difference I can. Thanks!

I used to feel the same way, you dont have to do anything special, just enjoy the site Perhaps you could donate a bit or introduce some other ponies to this site
Founder Twilight Sparkle ✨ 8,526 June 16, 2012 Founder Share June 16, 2012 I'm glad you're enjoying MLP Forums, Eldritch! Whatever you do, please do not click ads just for the sake of putting money in my pocket. This is against Google's rules, and is going to do much more harm than good. Google tries, however, to put up ads that are relevant to you, and if you see an ad that you actually are personally interested in, by all means feel free to click it and find out more. That's the reason advertisers pay for their ads - to spread the word about what they've made. Having some experience as both an ad publisher and advertiser, I can assure you that it's annoying if people who have no interest in an ad click on it. Google will catch on if you do this and I could get in trouble for it. Merely displaying the ads still helps, as it makes each click that does happen (whether you click it or someone else) more valuable. If you are unable to subscribe or make a donation, just kick back and enjoy the site. One of the best things you can do, actually, is to invite anyone you know who might be interested in a good pony forum to join. Not only are new members always great to have, but each new member may potentially enable ads or make a donation themselves. Also, just wanted to clarify that although a monthly subscription is preferable if you can afford it, you are welcome to make a one-time donation as well. Eldritch 20 June 16, 2012 Author Share June 16, 2012 (edited) Thanks for the info! I didn't mean to imply random ad clicking; I know that's a big no-no. Google has me down pretty well at this point, so I figured I would just bounce to a site I already buy from using one of the ads rather than typing it out if it would be helpful. Someday I won't be too broke to pay attention, and will happily start to donate, either on a monthly basis, or as a sporadic one-time. Until then, I'll keep spreading the word! Oh, speaking of that, I forgot to mention that you can use our Amazon referral links (from this page: http://mlpforums.com/forum-0/announcement-2-planning-to-buy-something-from-amazon-support-mlp-forums-while-youre-at-it/) when buying anything from Amazon, and I will then receive a small commission. If there are any other online stores you buy from, feel free to name them and I'll check if I can get a referral link for them as well (I have access to about 18,000 of them).
