To say a little bit about myself, I'm a professional game designer by trade, an anime enthusiast, a sometimes artist and musician, and a full time zookeeper (not really on that last one, I just have a lot of pets in my house. XD) My wife and I are both MLP fans, converted about halfway through season 1. At the time, we were -too cool- to get what all the fuss was about; how could people possibly be into a new Pony show? After all, most remakes of things from my youth have been disastrous. Then one day, while taking a sick day from work, my wife decides to watch the show to see for herself. The first episode was a cliffhanger, so clearly she had to watch the next, and then the next... Meanwhile at work, meandering around the Internet had led me to discover the existence of Derpy. I have a great love of the bizarre and humorous, so just that alone was 90% of the battle won in getting me to watch the show. After returning home and seeing my wife -still- watching episodes, it became pretty apparent that I needed to watch, too. We've been watching every new episode together as they come out ever since.
