Ronaan 21 July 24, 2012 Share July 24, 2012 I'm not sure if anything like this has been posted yet, but I need help with OpenOffice. I'm writing a fanfic, which is about 11 pages long right now, but I saved it on Google Drive. This wasn't the problem, even if my school tech guy blocked Google Drive due to accessing anything via the cloud. I copy/pasted the fanfic onto a Microsoft Notepad file (.txt) and transferred it to my school laptop. Now the problems start. I copy/paste the txt file into OpenOffice, but when I try to make edits, the cursor highlights the whole letter and replaces the next letter with the one I just typed, instead of adding it in between the two letters I want. I have found no one at school with this problem and have not found anything about this on Google. Any advice or facts about this helps. Thanks! A Blithering Div 247 July 24, 2012 Share July 24, 2012 Press Insert on your keyboard. Simply put, the editor for whatever reason is in insert mode instead of standard. I can neither confirm nor deny myself being the cause of electrical related malfunctions. Anyways, you wouldn't happen to have a jar of replacement magic smoke would you? I really don't know why the insert function still exists. It serves no other function than to be accidentally hit when using the page keys. 1 I can neither confirm nor deny myself being the cause of electrical related malfunctions. Lol, I must have accidentally hit it when I transferred the fanfic I'm writing over to my laptop. There were format errors, and I was deleting the errors and inserting the correct symbols like " and '. The Insert Key is directly above the backspace, so this makes sense. Thank you for helping me! It serves no other function than to be accidentally hit when using the page keys. heh, the only time i ever used the insert key was in Vi/Vim to get into insert mode, but you can also do that with the i key anyway so i don’t use insert much either. Glad I could be of use. Also, that's a weird placement for the insert key, even for a laptop. Its usually off to the side more. At least it was on my laptops. heh, the only time i ever used the insert key was in Vi/Vim to get into insert mode, but you can also do that with the i key anyway so i don’t use insert much either. I usually use i whenever I use vi/vim (yes I like nano because I'm a newb). I actually had to sharpie the save commands on my desk because I never remember them.
