My First Custom (Pinkamena)

So I got Pinkie and thought "There's no way I'm gonna get that mane looking all bouncy, what if I made her Pinkamena?" So I made her Pinkamena. I used the skills I got from warhammer and painted her eyes for epic authenticity and did her mane straight.

If anyone has tips on getting the mane to stay straight please share, I'm having a very hard time getting it the way I like it. I plan to keep doing these to improve so I can make my girlfriend the perfect vinyl scratch!

"What are you going to buy?" Asked Mother, "Ponies, of course!" I cried, skipping down the pink aisle.

Her eyes give me the heebie jeebies. Well done though. What sort of paint did you use? The only reason I ask is because in the really close up shot I noticed some brush strokes in the whites of her eyes. White is notoriously EVIL to deal with in customs. I'd recommend either thinning down the paint a little with water or picking up some Testors paint, or what I use, the Games Workshop bone white paint. That stuff ROCKS.

As far as the mane goes, you mentioned that you had a girlfriend? Does she have a curling iron with a 1 inch barrel, or a flat iron? <--Hair tools :P If she does, wet down Pinkie's hair, making sure not to get her eyes wet, otherwise your paint will run. (I'll get to that in a minute) Wet down her hair, and set one of these objects to their LOWEST heat setting And I mean LOWEST LOWEST LOWEST. Start at the root of the hair by the head and slowly pull the iron to the end of the hair. Never let the iron linger in one place for more than a second or two. YOU WILL HEAR POPS AND SIZZLES, this is normal. If you SMELL BURNING, this is NOT! You're melting the hair in that case. Just keep the iron moving and in a few passes, you'll have straight as an arrow hair. I would recommend taking some HUMAN HAIR conditioner and washing the hair with it first, leaving JUST a little bit in the hair for moisture's sake. This also helps to keep the hair straight and soft post-ironing.

NOW. As far as keeping your eyes paint job intact, I recommend getting some makeup application sponges, and a product called "ModPodge", you can get it in your local Michaels craft store or Walmart Craft aisle, the MATTE version, and take a small amount, water it down and paint it over the eyes. This seals the eyes paint and makes it permanent :)

Well done for a first try, keep up the good work! A word to the wise though: No glue or hair gel in pony's hair, it will cause chemical breakdown of the nylon in the hair over the long term, and just cause problems in general ^^ Have fun, I look forward to seeing more!

I love the eyes! You did such a good job :) . I actually like to style extra ponies I get in sets, and found a wonderful guide on deviant art. http://browse.devian...al=1&q=kawaiimo (Part 1 is for set-up and bangs, Part 2 is curls/twists). The method really works great... the simmering water+ice water shocking technique really gets it to stay and doesn't risk melting the hair as much. For straight hair, just brush it out and leave it somewhere to dry where it can be straight. Look at Twilight Sparkle or Fluttershy in part 2 for best advice. Just to show you how well this technique works, here's a pic of my custom Cadance with some curls I did.
