Attaching word files?

Is there a way to attach word files in private messages? I don't really want to paste my word document in the PM. I'd rather attach a file so the other person can open it and read it. So is there a way to do this?

Only staff members can attach files in private messages.

The reason for this is to make reasonable use of what are, at the end of the day, the community's server resources. I'm pretty generous with attachments here - up to 100 MB per file, and no upper limit on the number of files you can upload - but enabling attachments in PM's inevitably results in people treating the personal messenger as a file sharing service, which it isn't.

I'm more than happy to provide an easy and reliable way to share files that are posted on the public forums and become a part of the site's archives of content. I'm not so happy to dedicate our resources to sending files between members privately, as these files are only ever downloaded a couple of times, cannot be seen by anyone outside the conversation, and they'll sit around taking space up and never being accessed again potentially for months - depends on whether the personal conversation in question ever gets deleted by every participant.

It's not that server space is really an issue (I wouldn't be allowing unlimited uploads anywhere if it was), but allowing attachments in private messages seems like a needless waste of the community's resources.

For that reason, attachments are disabled for everyone but staff, for whom it can be extremely useful to include a quick (and small) screenshot with a message to someone regarding moderation duties.

I hope you understand. If you would like to send a file to someone privately, I would personally recommend MediaFire.
