FoxyCryptid 4,330 August 28, 2012 Share August 28, 2012 Up to this point I've been trying to avoid speech tags by denoted who speaks first when a paragraph ends, or describing body language, would it be weird if I just started using them now 8,000 words in? "You know, I don't know who or what you are Methos, and I know you don't want to hear this, but you did teach me something. You taught me that Life's about change, about learning to accept who you are, good or bad. And I thank you for that." -Duncan McLeod.
Lord Pretty Pie 64 August 28, 2012 Share August 28, 2012 What, you mean like "Quotation Marks?" If you've not been using quotation marks, be it 8000 words in or 8000 pages even, I say go back and add them. Nothing is more annoying to me in a story than a lack of quotes when someone is talking. "Hater's hate did create, that which they all feared. It is they we have to thank, for it is us they engineered."~ Me"Eventually!"~ Also Me "Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being 'grown up', to admire the 'grown up' because it is 'grown up', to blush at the suspicion of being childish; These are the marks of childhood and adolescence. When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be 'Very Grown Up'."~ C.S. Lewis

I meant tags, as in "Pinkie Pie said" Trust me, I've been using quotation marks the whole time. I'm a little more skilled that forgetting that. Lord Pretty Pie 64 August 28, 2012 Share August 28, 2012 Oh! I see. That's good then. Well, if you think that it's clear enough who is saying what, then by all means, keep it the way you're doing it. If however, you think it is difficult to tell, yes, it would be odd to start now. If you really feel you need to start, again, I suggest you go back and insert them where they are needed. All well in good, but would it be weird if I used them now when I haven't been for 8,000 so far, I hate the character limits on this site. Lord Pretty Pie 64 August 29, 2012 Share August 29, 2012 I rather enjoy the character limits. Makes for higher quality posts. Anyway, yes it would be very odd if you started now all of a sudden. It's worked for you so far, so keep it up. Consistency is very important in writing, in my opinion. "Hater's hate did create, that which they all feared.
