Dashie and Baumgartner

As I'm sure many people are aware, today marked the record setting freefall of the Austrian parachutist Felix Baumgartner from 128,000 feet in the air. During the freefall he reached a max speed of Mach 1.24. That is above the sonic barrier. He performed this without any sort of engine attached to him, just gravity.

What does this have to do with pony? Quite a lot. The far-fetched physics of the pony world may not be too ridiculous. The Sonic Rainboom has been mocked by some pony haters (well, at least one I know) as being an insult to science. A living organism couldn't, without the assistance of technology, travel at supersonic speeds. This is remarkably similar to the claims that no machine could travel that fast, before Yeager blew away that notion in 1947.

Baumgartner did a big favor for the Bronydom today. We now know for a fact that Rainbow's extroardinarily speed isn't impossible, even with earth physics. Since a rainbow is just an optical effect caused by light hitting water vapor from a certain angle, it is easily possible that a Sonic Rainboom could occur. As for an organism surviving such a flight without the aid of a space suit: Well, Pegasi have magic.

I know that the Brony physics video was right in pointing out some errors behind the ridiculous rate of acceleration Rainbow had in the episode "Sonic Rainboom", but just think of the possibilities! To any science minded Bronies out there: How exactly could someone do a Sonic Rainboom, freefalling a la Baumgartner? Is there any way to control the vapor, or at least to increase the likelihood of causing a rainbow at the same time as a sonic boom?

But more importantly: How do we show Baumgartner the show, get him hooked, and convince him to carry a Rainbow Dash figurine on his next skydive?

Hmm...Idk, I'm not a science brony, but I did learn that the guy survived, which is nice :D. Maybe I could ask my science teacher how "one could preform some sort of rainbow trail whilst skydiving" Hmm, Idk about getting Baumgartner hooked, but what made me chuckle alot is the idea of him wearing a giant RD suit while he skydives :).

Maybe have him use a rainbow-colored parachute next time he jumps? IF he jumps again...I don't know about him, but one twenty-four mile jump would be more than enough for my lifetime.

Or an enormous rainbow-colored banner, like airplanes use to advertise cheap Lasik surgery.
