Vicke 3,189 November 11, 2012 Share November 11, 2012 (edited) There have been 4 villains so far in the entire series of Friendship is Magic, and I've got to say. I've been disappointed in some cases. The show started off with Nightmare Moon. Nightmare Moon was a pretty standard villain. She had a good backstory and a pretty neat appearance. But she did lack on one thing. And that was knowledge. Being one of the most powerful in the world of Equestria and she didn't know about the Elements of Harmony? And i'm talking about the real power and not the stones she broke. I'd say she was an OK villain and she made a great start with the generation. Next we got Discord. Discord is probably the best villain in the series, mainly because he was actually very threatening. He was even close in succeeding, unlike the others. And yeah, for some very odd reason Celestia didn't give a buck about him. That is my only issue. he do got a pretty neat and original appearance as well After him we got Queen Chrysalis. She was also one of the better villains and she would probably have been even better villain then Discord, If she didn't happen to be defeated by this silly power called "love". Her appearance was much greater then Discord, and so was her plot. She whooped Celestias flank and she had legs that looks like a cheese. She was smart unlike Discord and you could tell that she was truly evil. Even tho she did it because of her race. And last, but not least, we got King Sombra. He is the most badass looking villain Hasbro has ever created. He had so much potential and they could do so much with him. But what do they do? They turn him into a some shadow that had screen time for about 5 minutes in the whole two episodes. Big mistake for such a character. They gave him no backstory and hardly any powers. There was never any battle. It was more running and throwing stones. Its really sad that they did this to such a character. Note: I know that its a show for girls, but do they really have to skip battles and such? We will just have to see what they do with the next villain. Motion Spark 7,807 November 11, 2012 Share November 11, 2012 I agree 100% marry me nao OMG! king sombra was such a badass villain, he looked so fricking good, he had so much potential like you said and it was disappointing the almost unexistent part on the premiere that he had. being this a kids show, is not an excuse anymore, Hasbro is COMPLETELY aware of bronies and they know that we are making them rich, so doing this is not an excuse, but y'know the "innocence" of the show is the reason why we like it right? 2 My OC's: Motion Spark || Beat Spark || Rosebelle Sorry, I don't take REQUESTS! The two episodes were great. Probably among top 10 or even top 5.Sombra had a great appearance, and probably the best so far. He was almost like MLP's own little Ganondorf. Except that Ganondorf is one powerful being. He was more of a joke then an actual threat. If they would have thrown in some battles with him so he could have shown his power and maybe even expanded the story into three parts giving him a good backstory, he would have been a top notch character. 1 Signature made by Kyoshi
DireDoe 48 November 11, 2012 Share November 11, 2012 I think it's interesting that King Sombra was the first actual pony villain in the show. Nightmare Moon is an alicorn and they seem to be seperate from the actual pony species, then you have Discord who is a completely different animal(s) altogether, and then Queen Chrysalis who is a changeling. This reinforces my thoughts that of the three pony types, unicorns have the capability to be the most difficult foes. Except for pegasus ponies being able to hide behind a cloud (for whatever good that would do) there's really nothing an earth pony or pegasus can do to protect themselves from a particularly strong and driven unicorn.
poniesforfun 716 November 11, 2012 Share November 11, 2012 (edited) True. I hate this favoritism to "the most powerful beings have wings and horn(s)" and are exceptionally large (King Sombra was also the smallest of the villains about Shining Armor size). He was capable of shutting off magic, maybe make him into a full technology using unicorn or something that prefers technology over magic. I mean he seemed to like making ponies into slaves... probably to build his technology? I'm ranting again. But seriously the cider making machine and the train.... those scream steampunk! Come on give us a steampunk villain. And at first I thought the Crystal Empire would of been run on crystals as energies for the tech. Night Shine 767 November 11, 2012 Share November 11, 2012 (edited) YAY! A villain analysis thread! I love good villains, especially analyzing what makes them good. The show started off with Nightmare Moon. Nightmare Moon was a pretty standard villain. She had a good backstory and a pretty neat appearance. But she did lack on one thing. And that was knowledge. I agree with you there. Her personality, goal, and actions were all relatively generic. However, I think the one thing that makes her such an awesome character is her backstory and alter-ego situation with Luna. So many fanfic opportunities! :3Being one of the most powerful in the world of Equestria and she didn't know about the Elements of Harmony? And i'm talking about the real power and not the stones she broke. I'd say she was an OK villain and she made a great start with the generation. Next we got Discord. And yeah, for some very odd reason Celestia didn't give a buck about him. That is my only issue. he do got a pretty neat and original appearance as well Buck yeah we got Discord. The fact that he's such an intriguing/threatening villain by manipulating and twisting the Mane 6 is what got me hooked on the show originally. Also, Celestia 'didn't give a buck about him' because she knew that she had no chance against him from past experience. After him we got Queen Chrysalis. Actually, I kinda disagree with you there. She suffers the same problem as Night Mare Moon--her personality is generic. However, her powers, design, and plan were pretty friggin awesome. She was smart, evil, and her appearance was better than Discord's. Still, getting defeated by the power of Love seemed like a fitting end, given her plan/powers. Eeyup. They definitely did really well establishing Sombra as a badass, what with his powers and the way you can feel how everypony is so afraid of him. Still, no backstory and no development make me kinda angry...that they let this opportunity go, in effect. Still, his powers were awesome, even tho he never really used them in an epic battle. Note: I know that its a show for girls, but do they really have to skip battles and such? We will just have to see what they do with the next villain. Fo sho. Completely agree with you. /) ...actually though, are we only counting the main OP villains? Cuz otherwise we'd have to include Trixie, Gilda, Flim and Flam... Flutterdasher 115 November 11, 2012 Share November 11, 2012 I think it's interesting that King Sombra was the first actual pony villain in the show. That was something that I noticed as well. I think it was an interesting choice that the first actual pony villain was not only a male pony but also didn't show up until a couple seasons in. I just think it was an interesting choice on the part of the writers. I can't wait to see where they go from here.
