This is based around my OC, Stacy, filly years. I hope you guys will enjoy and implement criticism into your post. Of course a "good job" is always welcomed as well. I will post the next picture in the photo alblum here so if you want to see those just click the folow button. Rainbow Skywalker 642 November 29, 2012 Share November 29, 2012 Nice. Pony anatomy isn't too shabby. The grass definitely has some detail to it, making the background just as well drawn as the pony herself. Good work dude! Rainbow-Crayons 44 November 29, 2012 Share November 29, 2012 For anatomy critique, the back legs could use some work, and that's all I can really see. But I am no master at anatomy... ;v; I think this is very good so far, and I cannot wait to see the finished version!
Marathon 562 November 29, 2012 Author Share November 29, 2012 (edited) Thanks guys. Im going to post the rest of the pics on this thread so if you want to see the alblum grow just hit the folow button. Here is the finished product. I didnt add much more as i was pretty much done plus i want to get started on my next one. The title of this piece is "Spring Garden" and i will not take request to color it, i prefer black and white anyways. Enigma 200 November 29, 2012 Share November 29, 2012 Very good, looks like you have real potential! 83 Forgot to mention in the thingie that your shading isn't too great. What little shading there is it's too 'solid' if that makes sense? Like there's no gradient between light at dark. If you're going for a cellshaded kinda look, you need to make the shading thicker if that makes sense? Not blacker but wider so the audience can see if clearer. Also, you should add highlights into your mane and tail as well by using an eraser or white gel pen o wo; OH, when you move to colouring things remember this: Warm coloured light produces cold coloured shadows just as cold coloured lights produce warm coloured shadows. 1 "The inner machinations of my mind are an enigma." Marathon 562 November 29, 2012 Author Share November 29, 2012 Well i read all your comments and i have to say its not perfect. The shading is a hit or miss for me, in terms of the hind leg length its fine. You have to remember this is a filly so the legs are short. Clouds i thought about doing but i wanted to get started on my next picture. Yeah i could round the body a bit more like you said. I have learned 1,2 and 3 point perspective, i was just to lazy to actualy use it. But in the preview for my next one you can see the use of one point perspective, and ill be doing cross hatch shading in the picture as well. The tail and mane are fine (the mane could use a little work, im still experimenting with her mane). But over all i can see what youre saying, i never really see the mistakes until im finished. But im sure my next one will come out better. Thanks for all that help! "And with a sigh, she closed the old dusty book and set it gently back on its self. Wishing for a better day to come tomorrow. Ah, I wasn't sure wether it was a filly or not, the front legs threw me off since they're much longer than the front = w=; Hm, if it's a hit or a miss, have you tried practicing shading with 3D simple shapes like spheres and cubes? The tail isn't too bad, but remember that it's not a heavy or solid object, it has movement. Also, try turning your page upside down to check for mistakes. This is a really good critique! I really couldn't add anything onto everything that's been said. Can't wait to see it colored. 1 // DEVIANTART // TUMBLR

The red lining for the leg isn't the most correct if we wanted a style that resembles show accuracy. A mare is about three heads tall but your leg appears almost two heads long.... yeah. I don't do show style o -o;; That's how long I do adult mare legs by default~ I wouldn't say two, more like 1 and 1/4 or 1 and 1/2 "The inner machinations of my mind are an enigma." Pix3M 607 November 29, 2012 Share November 29, 2012 And for some reason its counting less than a hundred characters for this post without this paragraph. Dangit forums, stop toying with me. I don't do show style o -o;; That's how long I do adult mare legs by default~ I wouldn't say two, more like 1 and 1/4 or 1 and 1/2 I think the OP was definitely going for a bit of show-style. Anyways, I found a vector to reference: http://fav.me/d5ma6d3 That one is a bit less than three heads, but it should be exactly from the show. I measured your leg from the top of the rump to the hoof and counted a bit less than two heads but more than 1 1/2. Looking at this vector, that appears about 1 1/2 from top of the rump to the hoof. So, I guess your leg while fine if we wanted a proportionally smaller head, but probably not necessarily entirely perfect for show accuracy. Ah I measure it from the knee down = w= I've never studied show style, never will since I'd rather keep to my own. My style's anatomy is closer to real life than the show so long legs is on the menu for me~ o wo Edited November 29, 2012 by Enigma "The inner machinations of my mind are an enigma."
