Lightning Dasher 149 January 10, 2013 Share January 10, 2013 As soon as I signed up on the forum, I just jumped into the conversations that caught my interest and i've been on another "pony binge" over the last few days... Surprised it happened after a layoff at work, lol. I think i'm actually beginning to notice a trend at this point. Whenever something negative ever happens, I binge on MLP in some way shape or form, as I can relate similar binges to other times. Now, I stay updated daily on mylittlebrony and catch the odd youtube video otherwise, but that doesn't really compare, lol. Just goes to show how much of an impact this show has. I started watching back in June, 2012 (that actually sounds kinda funny now considering it's just turned 2013). What got me started was a friend online who happened to watch it and always talked about it and how awesome it was (she actually gave a good, logical explanation and didn't just 'ohmygoshohmygoshohgmygosh it's so awesome' it). I couldn't FATHOM why she enjoyed it, and for the longest time, I didn't even have the most remote interest in even giving it a shot. It was basically just one of those days where I just had this gnawing feeling at the insides of my brain to at least watch an episode so I could see for myself and actually pass judgement fairly. At first, I sat there dumbfounded because I couldn't figure out why it was still on. Then episode 2 came on... Then episode 3... and 4, and 5... I think at this point I was wondering what was HAPPENING to me, because I still didn't understand this compulsion to keep watching or reach that point of acceptance. By the time I stopped myself, I was done all of season 1 and only got a couple hours of sleep before work and I didn't regret a thing, because ponies were stuck in my head and kept me awake. It was inexplicably awesome. Instead of going to bed when I got home, I marathon'ed the *squee* out of season 2 and was reading page after page of mylittlebrony. By the time I caught up with everything there, and rewatching season 1 and 2, I felt like I had a grasp on all the meme's and knew each episode pretty well. When I thought about it, I actually started to feel REALLY sorry for all the people who had to actually WAIT week after week to watch each new episode, and the time in between seasons 1 and 2, and that I was spoiled that I had them all available right off the bat. Then waiting for season 3 seemed like no big deal in comparison to what other bronies had to deal with. On a side note, i've never actually done anything outside of just watching and reading MLP:FIM related material, so joining this forum is pretty much "First Contact" outside of the friend who subliminally planted the idea to watch MLP:FIM in my head to begin with, lol. With all that said, I think the "Favourite Pony" is an important thing to talk about. I've already posted who they were elsewhere, but here I should give a bit more detail. Initially, Rainbow Dash had been my favourite, hands down, no competition at all, because of her sporty, competitive, bragging nature which I could relate to on a lot of levels when I play sports. All the energy and hype she puts into the things she does is just awesome. I like to have the same attitude when going into the things, and I could empathise with the character on some levels as well. What caught me by surprise, as it hasn't been until season 3 rolled around, has been Applejack. Out of the Mane6, she had been around 4th/5th with Twilight Sparkle. Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy just stood out because of two completely opposite ends of the spectrum in their personalities and were always fun to watch. Rarity still sits at 6th, and that hasn't changed one bit. She has her moments, but she just doesn't appeal to me in the same way as the others. But BACK to Applejack. As the episodes went on and on, I started to see more and more of myself in Applejack in my everyday life. As I saw her character develop over time and to the point where she is now, i've got the most respect and admiration for everything she does and just how well-rounded and pure amazing she is. If I didn't have the loyalty I do to Rainbow Dash being my first favourite pony who drew me into the show the most, AJ would have knocked that filly on her tushie into second place, but it's a tie between those two just like the race in 'Fall Weather Friends.' On a last note, i'm still debating over creating an OC. I've got the idea in my head, but just not sure how much time I would put in to it. Otherwise, that's that for now. *Brohoof* 1 Ponies make it impossible to sleep. "My stomach was making the rumblings, that only hands would satisfy."
