You just have to post enough to get a new badge/rank. If you click on the badge, it brings up a list of the ranks and how many posts you need to get them.

 

Pony specifically is one of the higher ranking badges and I think you need like a thousand posts or something. But you get muffin at five and cupcake at forty. I don't remember how it goes after that.
