Ask a guitarist

Flicker Sweet

Recommended Posts

I am sitting here right now with my friend Robert.  You guys would know him as the guitarist I played Walk This Way with in my orchestra.

He's completely open to any questions you guys may have for him, music related or not.

FIRE AWAY!!!!!!!

(warning: He is extremely blunt about things, and NOT a brony)

Are there any chords that require 9 fingers to play?

there's a reason why those chords aren't in human music (so yes)

Favorite chord?

hey, guy, i have a partially paralyzed arm but still love playing my guitar, although it really is hard for me. any suggestions on what might make it a bit easier? i mean, video game music is fine and all, but i want to play, like, foo fighters and stuff.

Which arm is it, and exactly how paralyzed? I'm no expert, but if your left arm has trouble moving quickly as a whole, but the fingers are fine, then a Chapman Stick could help by focusing the more intense motions on the right arm. If instead you meant that the fingers are difficult to move, but not the other joints, then that would be terrible advice and you should just learn to play left-handed. If it's a nerve-thing and it's difficult to move any joints in the arm... have you considered trying a new instrument? For example, most brass instruments are easily playable with only one dexterous limb.

Play slowly and work up to speed
