John de Lancie and Fandom Involvement

So, let me preface by saying I'm pretty new to the fandom-have almost made it through the first season and am trying to watch the series in order.

So, everyone went out today, and I did what any red blooded masculine man would do-I put on the Hub and watched Ponies.

Now, I haven't done a lot of research into the voice actors at this point, so when one of the episodes featured Discord I had no idea who was acting the part-however the first time he snapped his fingers and something wierd happened I immediately thought of Q from Star Trek TNG.

Of course, then I started noticing certain vocal inflections-Damn, it even sounds like Q.

Quick Google search -'Holy crap, John De-Bloody-Lancie!'

So Q has made his way into Equestria. Awesome.

Of course, I'm sure you all knew this in advance, but it was such a revelation to me I wanted to share it.

I looked into his involvement in the show, and am amazed at the support he's shown to the Brony community-even appearing at Comicon in a Brony shirt, and of course co-producing the documentary about the fandom.

I knew there was a reason I liked John as an actor. So freaking cool that they could incorporate him in this way, and that he's embraced it like he has.

I didn't know about John De Lancie until I got into the show, the first episode I watched was the Return of Harmony two parter which is where Discord was first introduced. And because of that Discord became the first character I liked, my favorite villain and my favorite character overall. Months after getting into show I recognized John De Lancie's voice in Assassins Creed III when I heard Desmond Miles's father speak, I looked it up and sure enough it was Johnny who voiced him.

@@Thunderchild,

Hello. Your topic seemed to be much more related to John de Lancie and how he interacts with the community and the fandom than Discord himself, so for convenience I have edided the title of your topic.

I never watched much of Star Trek, but de Lancie is incredible. He's really jumped in with both feet and has a lot of enthusiasm about the show and bronies in general.

@Strawhat

Thanks for the title edit-wasn't exactly sure how to title it-yours works better.

If you get the chance, check out the old TNG episodes featuring Q - you'll dig the job John did with the charactor-especially as the show progresses.

I watched "Star Trek the Next Generation" when I was a kid.  I think of it as my primary Star Trek series.  I always loved the Q episodes, and I am a fan of John de Lancie.  He had a short-lived sci-fi western series with Richard Dean Anderson, called "Legend."  John played a genius inventor in the 1800s.  The series was kind of Steampunk.  I enjoyed the show and was disappointed when it got canceled.  Of course, I recognized the voice of Discord immediately and loved the similarity to Q.  I was thrilled to see how involved John got with the Brony Fandom.
