TheMarkz0ne 962 May 8, 2013 Share May 8, 2013 I know a comic super hero story when I see it. I see a TON of super hero elements in my little pony. It's not as flashy as Marvel or DC. But it's there
GC13 17 May 8, 2013 Share May 8, 2013 What tropes are you seeing? Because while they're more capable in a dangerous situation than the average pony, I don't see much else. They more Chosen Ones than super heroes. They certainly don't actively seek out evil, they live happy mundane lives until it appears, and go right back to their happy mundane lives as soon as the threat passes. In a comic book, if Nightmare Moon hadn't been their call to heroism, Discord would have. Heck, their super powers are even super limited. There have been a grand total of three enemies they've tried to use them on, and a fourth we know they could have. All of the other threats they face, they're more action heroes than super heroes. Sugar Cube 4,843 May 8, 2013 Share May 8, 2013 (edited) I don't think the Mane Six are super heroines, because they don't really have super powers. Twilight has amazing magical abilities and Rainbow Dash has super speed flying, but outside of that, they're not exactly "super." I guess The Stare and the Pinkie Sense could be classified as super powers, but what about AJ and Rarity? Rarity's magic is very limited, and while Applejack is strong, she's not Hercules. They're definitely heroines, just not super heroines. Edited May 8, 2013 by Sugar Cube
Nohbdy 4,108 May 8, 2013 Share May 8, 2013 Definitely not. Part of the Mane Six's appeal is that they are ordinary ponies given extraordinary responsibilities. They have unique talents, yeah, but they're not so far beyond the average pony that one can reasonably place them in a separate, superequine category. They don't even have superpowers, really, even when you look at their "abilities." Twilight's the master of magic, but she did it through a lifetime of study. Applejack's physical strength comes as part of being a farmer. Rarity is a professional fashion designer. Fluttershy's connection with nature arose out of her inability to connect with her peers. Rainbow Dash simply loves flying and competition, and constantly challenges herself to become better. And Pinkie Pie--well, she's Pinkie Pie, but you get the idea. Individually, each pony is a separate individual without any superpowers. The Mane Six's single greatest power is that of the combined elements of harmony. This is not because they are each individually superheroes. Instead, the power comes from something entirely normal: friendship, something that everypony's capable of possessing You don't need superpowers to wield the power of friendship.
