Really? Death Threats for disliking Derpy? Really?

Could you try being a bit more insulting and using more ridiculous generalizations? Maybe I'd say that the majority of all Twilight Sparkle fans are murderers, but it doesn't make it any less bullshit. And let the term "rabid" brony die in the tumblr pits that spawned it.

Hey, chill out. You're not helping by having an attitude. As I brony, I've met other bronies that I would call "rabid", both in their love for the show and their near-fanatical defending of why "their pony is best pony". Don't get angry at someone for stating that.

But he wasn't. He literally said that the majority of Fluttershy and Derpy Hooves fans send death threats. And as far as I'm concerned the polarizing term "rabid" brony  was popularized by sensationalistic anti-brony blogs on tumblr and should just die out quickly.

Well as far as my experiences go, the bronies I've met are indeed rabid, who would kill someone for saying they don't like a certain pony.

Quote from a video on Youtube: "For every tear Derpy sheds I will kill 1000 haters".

How classy.

That may be true, but you're only adding fuel to the fire by getting angry and lashing out. And in that person's own experience, it may be true. We don't know what bronies they've met. They may have the misfortune of meeting nothing but crazies.

And the term "rabid" has been around a while ;) I use it to describe fanatical people. Bronies and non-bronies alike.

I really doubt that's the case. It sounds highly implausible unless he lives in a prison. Or if he knows like a single insane fanboy.

In my opinion rabies is not a funny virus, just a very very scary one. But if people really think that's the best descriptor, fine diddely doo then.

With all due respect, it's not your place or mine to decide whether or not what someone says they've experienced is true or not without actually knowing them.

And I never said rabies or the term 'rabid' was funny, just to clarify.

Rabies? Wait whaat? I don't think a "rabid" is compared to "rabies", unless said rabid is foaming at the mouth.. Rabid, for me, is just a crazy fandom person. but this being the brony fandom, it's like.. Some bronies shout the whole love & tolerate, but they don't follow through on it.

No but we are allowed to use critical thinking.

Well the meaning of rabid is "made mad by rabies". And it seems like a really pointless term since everyone has their own idea what a rabid brony is.

That's not critical thinking, it's judging and assuming. Not a kind thing to apply to your fellow brony. In your haste to combat hate, don't get so caught up in it that you start to assume the worst in others.

When people say: "The majority of the Fluttershy fans I know send death threats to other people". That's really when you should be exercising your critical thinking, because if you without question take a statement like that on face value I would be forced to assume you're a bit gullible.

Not gullible, no. I'd say there's a reasonable chance that less than 50% of the Fluttershy fans that person has met are the death-threat type. But I don't know that. I can't know that. If there's at least a 1% chance of that being true (which there absolutely is) I'm not going to tell someone to their face that they're lying. I have no evidence of their personal interactions to back that up. That doesn't mean I blindly believe that what they say is true, I simply accept the fact that it's how they feel about the situation. Seeing as how I can't prove one way or another that it's a true statement, I'll just leave it be.

So why is this debate still going on when this mess was resolved months ago?

Also, it's worth bearing in mind that the person that got the threats isn't exactly innocent either, she continued to antagonize and egg it on by bringing it up every chance she got instead of trying to end it. She went as far to make a thread on the DA forums about it instead of PMing a mod. It was a whole mess of "EVERYONE screwed up."

Exactly what are Derpy fans supposed to think when the Derpy complainers accuse most or all Derpy fans of sending death threats when most of them had nothing to do with that? I am not saying that lashing out is the best thing to do but that is a really cruel and unfair thing to accuse someone of, I try to assume the best in people but for some people it is unfortunately not there.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think that over-generalizing is any good, either. My point is only that lashing out doesn't help, since it not only can make the situation worse, there's also the possibility that the person saying that actually has legitimate reasons for feeling that way, due to their own experiences.

I'm not even saying that every Derpy or Fluttershy fan is like that. I, myself, am a small fan of Derpy Hooves, but it's a majority of them that are still upset over the Derpy Hooves drama.

There is no legitimate reason to accuse everyone in a group that large and diverse of all sending death threats when you have no proof whatsoever. I don't care what their personal experiences or reasons are, if the only way someone can communicate is through baseless slander than perhaps they shouldn't speak at all. I of course agree that lashing out is not the best idea but with the exception of the small minority that sent death threats I can't really fault Derpy fans too much for lashing out at least a little. As much as it sickens me I know that I have to try to hold back when it comes to the Derpy complainers otherwise I will turn them into martyrs and that is the last thing I want to happen.

I do have proof though. I gave it earlier. You type in "Save Derpy" and read the comments on that particular video. People are either sad, or angry.

I'm sorry if I'm not coming across well. I'm just trying to say that getting angry and yelling back doesn't help. It only makes it worse. For all I know, the person who said that has met, let's say, 15 Fluttershy and Derpy fans. Out of those 15, 10 were crazy, "Imma gunna kill u 4 not liking my poni!!!" type people. In that person's mind, the majority of those fans are like that, since that's been their experience.

I'm not saying that telling someone that the majority of fans like them are crazy-death-threat-people is okay. It's over-generalizing. I'm saying that instead of lashing out, try and reason with the person to understand why they think that. Not only does that show said person that not all fans are crazy killers, it's much more civil.

Youtube comments aren't proof, but yes I do agree that there is plenty of evidence to back up that the majority of Derpy fans are sad, angry or both about what happened but just because someone is upset dosen't always mean they will send a death threat. Even the most level headed person gets upset every now and then but that absurd logic even they would send a death threat every time they got upset which is simply not true.

I don't see how they cannot be proof if there's a real person saying those things? Oh, and then there's My Little Brony. I guess that's not proof either, huh?

And that is exactly why I am trying as best as I can to hold back my nasty side on this issue, because even though I am always going to dislike the Derpy complainers I realize that going into full blown rage mode is only going to prove their point even if that point is BS. I made a youtube video on the subject recently and I think I presented myself well without raging too much

And if it helps, I think you're doing great on that note. ^_^ I experience you as being both level-headed and civil. I'm going to watch your video now!

I think this explains what I said pretty well. As you can see in some of them, some of them involve people saying they don't like Derpy for whatever reason, and then bronies say they're gonna shank said person, and what not.
