How can anyone be so mean?

Decided to do some quick thing to vent after I "talked" with my parents, which basically is just fighting, yelling, insulting and them saying how ashamed they are of me.

So I decided to draw this because it helps me cope. It's not some random OC, it's actually me if I were a pony.

I've almost fixed my scanner, it's up and running but the scanning doesn't really work for some reason..

Anyway, I'm kinda happy with how this packed out, I think I grasped the emotion pretty well. Though the colors seem a bit heavy in contrast because of the cheap camera my phone has, especially the piercings, they aren't actually that dark. I'm not really happy with the ear though, it should be a bit longer, perhaps a wider too. I went for a different style this time similar to my favorite artists but in the end I still had the tendency to go back to my older style.

What're your thoughts?

It's really quite beautiful. You have a very unique style, my friend...excellent job of capturing the emotion. The only thing I'd have done differently would be to put the ear flat against the head, as ponies in the show have been shown to do when they're sad. Still, very nicely done.

And I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your parents. I don't know what circumstance would lead them to express shame towards you, but suffice it to say, I doubt you're anything remotely resembling a shameful person in reality. That said, if drawing helps you cope, keep doing it - you happen to be quite good at it, and I'd love to see you fully develop the style you're aiming for. :)

Ah, well, thats... depressing.

But on the bright side, this is a really great drawing.  Lots of extra detail here and there with the nose wrinkle and the tip of the ear.  And the eyes are very realistic as well.  I would love to be able to do stuff like this with just a pencil and paper, but I'm still stuck with stick figures XD.

I hope everything works out well otherwise.

Without knowing what you did, I can't make any judgement on weather or not your parents are being reasonable.

That being said, you draw very well :D

My first impression is that you are way too hard on yourself and lack confidence in your own abilities which is probably a reflection of how you're being treated and what you are being told.

Don't be ashamed of yourself! You are a talented artist and all art (and music) is beautiful as it's an expression of the soul.. Not every one can do it and it takes a special person to capture emotions on paper.

Have you ever calmly told your parents how what they say to you makes you feel? Don't blame... and avoid using the word 'you' but often use the word "i"  just say "When someone does or says this... I feel this."

I like your OC.

Oh darn it, I totally forgot about the flat ear thing. Perhaps I'll change it in the digital version.

Going with this style is pretty hard because it goes against every rule I set for drawing ponies, especially how I draw the chin.

I like putting extra details in my drawings, it's actually just a way for me to make a drawing feel less empty and bland. I feel like the nose wrinkle wasn't that well done though.

And bro, you keep on drawing, no one starts out as a good drawer and only practice makes someone better.

Meh, it's not that I'm too hard on myself, it's just that I have to keep being realistic. If I don't I'll become lazy and then my development in art will come to a full-stop. I need to keep challenging myself otherwise I'll get bored and start procrastinating.

And no, rule number one in my family is that you cannot reason with my parents, every other family member agrees with me. They're too stubborn, arrogant and irrational. I've given up the hope already, there's just no use to reason with them anymore. It's just a matter of time before I find a place to crash and break off most of the communication with them.

Did you find anything wrong with the picture though? I'm always looking for others' opinions because there're still plenty of mistakes that others see and I don't. Perhaps anything that could be added to the picture or something that could've been different?

Ok here's a critique... even though it's very hard to judge a piece of art when the computer tends to not photograph it so well

She could use more light in the eye. I know  you're trying to portray depression and sadness, but if you look at Pinkie Pie even in her most depressed state there is always a lot of light in the eye. This makes the eye come alive and be less flat.

To me also the white light in the eye makes the look even more tearful.

Not sure what style you are going for with your picture, as in MLP there is very little shading on the characters, because it's animation, and many artists like to stick with that... but if you wanted to go with a less flat look you could add shading around the face to make it look rounder and more "real". so decide which direction the light is coming from...even draw a little sun that you can erase later to remind you, then shade darker where the shadows go.

With the hair... the coloring or shading there looks a bit scratchy. You could go with individual hair lines on it or just shading. To make it look like hair, use several different shades, lighter hairs, and darker hairs. I like to use different pecils for this effect. HB some... 2B others and 4B and even 6B for the really dark ones.

The tears look great, don't change them. and as mentioned above you could maybe put the ear back, like Pinkie's above which would add the sad expression.

I still have a lot to learn in art too.

later.
