Starshy smiled at his obvious love for the delicious favored cupcake she made. She levitated one over to try for herself, biting into it. It really did taste pretty good - better than good. Almost just as delicious as Mrs. Cake makes them.

 

She had worked hard over the past few months trying to perfect all of Mrs. Cake's recipes. It had been trial and error; she remember one such time where she made a batch of sapphire cupcakes that had sent some ponies home because they were so sick. Mrs. Cake had been kind to her, saying it's alright, it's just a matter of time before she could perfect that one.

 

She swallowed her bite, and glanced up at him curiously. " What else would you like to do today? I didn't think you'd want to hang around here all day, right? "

The following morning, Starshy had a lot on her mind. As she went downstairs to her kitchen, starting to make some tea, she thought about the day prior.

 

She and Chocolate had made it out of Sugarcube Corner without any pony noticing them leaving it together. They had waited until an apparent crowd had shown up because of what was going on, per his request. He had stayed with her as they went back to her home, and he'd have to steady her a few times with her sudden inability to walk properly. He had gone back to his farm and she slept by herself this night. Not that she had wanted the company, she was feeling a mix of emotions. Bitter, confused, angry, love..who knew that after something such as.. that.. could stir these emotions in her. Starshy wasn't one to have a huge temper but perhaps Chocolate would be the first to bring it out of her. 

 

Starshy was feeling sore and moved around slowly. She'd probably be like this for a couple of days, maybe. Chocolate was no lightweight afterall.

 

Sighing heavily, she poured hot water into a cup and and gets out a box of tea bags from the shelf above the stove. She didn't think she could face Chocolate today. 

 

She wondered when he was going to tell his folks about their relationship. They'd probably wouldn't respond in kind, considering she is a unicorn. He couldn't keep it a secret, or else they couldn't be together. He'd have to tell them if he still wanted her enough. 

 

Starshy slowly made her way to the living room, gently sitting herself on a couch that Chocolate had occupied the day before. Sipping her tea, she brought over a blanket with her magic and placed it atop herself; settling in for a day alone.

[Chocolate 109]

Chocolate had returned back to the farm, something about him was off and even his family was picking up on it. He was working late that night on the farm even though all the chores had been taken care of that day. His younger brother approached him as Chocolate was working twice as hard, pitching large bales of hay that normally took two to lift. Sweat dripped off of Chocolate's brow as he worked tirelessly. "Chocolate? Are you alright? You've been working since you got back... and you normally don't do this unless something is on your mind." The younger colt said.

Chocolate placed the last bale of hay down and panted, "I am... fine." He said deeply. Even though he said he was fine, it was not the case. He knew Starshy was very upset with him, he could see it in her eyes after 'it' had happened in Sugarcube and again when he had taken her home. She probably hated his guts. He had denied her of her fantasy and he felt horrible about it. He knew how much it meant to her but he wasn't able to comply. And besides all that, he still hadn't told his family about her. 

"It's just I... her upset with me." He said looking down to the ground. The younger colt pressed a supportive hoof on his older brother. "Chocolate, you know if you want to make it up to her you just have to talk." Chocolate nodded and looked to the night sky. "I will talk to her first thing tomorrow morning... if she'll even talk to me." He said trotting alongside his sibling to their home.

The very next morning, bright and early the chocolate colored stallion awoke from his slumber. Placing his normal saddle on his back he began to trek to Starshy's place. He stood in front of her door for a while before knocking with his large hoof. He needed to talk to her.

Starshy was dozing a bit when she heard a knock at the door.

 

She didn't have to open the door to know who it was on the other side. She sighed to herself, wondering for a brief moment if she would get up and answer it - or tell him to leave her alone.

 

The white unicorn mare debated this for a minute, and decided to get up. She wrapped the blanket around her body and slowly made her way to the front door, using magic to open it. Her legs were much to tried from last night to use them much. 

 

She didn't know what to say the minute she gazed up at Chocolate. She felt were wasn't a need for any words, and to let him have the floor as it were.

[Chocolate 109]

Chocolate stood in front of the door for a while, just when he was about to turn and head back home the door began to glow and the little white unicorn mare was standing before him. He looked down to her in silence for a moment as if thinking of something to say. Then he spoke. "Sorry to come over so early... and making you stand up. May I come in?" He asked softly. He knew he was the last person she wanted to see but he had to clear the air now or she would never forgive him. 

Once they were both inside he helped her into her seat and sat on the opposite side of her and looked over into her eyes. "Star you have to understand why I did what I did. It wasn't to spite you, it was to make sure we were both ready. If we were to have a foal now, I'm not sure we would be ready to take care of it." He started.

Starshy had let him inside, and the door closed behind them. He had helped to her seat and there was a small silence between them.

 

Once he spoke up though, there was a feeling of a rock in her stomach. She looked into his eyes for a moment, before casting her gaze downward. She lifted the cup of tea with her magic, taking another sip. Then she learned back to get comfortable, wrapping the blanket around herself as though to shield his eyes from looking at her sore and wearily body.

 

She was quiet for a moment, tears surfacing to her face. " .....I understand perfectly why you did that. I mean, how could I think that I was ready for a child? I haven't told my folks about you, nor have you told yours.. " The tears were running down her face, unable to keep them from doing so.

 

 

" I shouldn't be upset with you, because honestly if I had become pregnant /then/ I should somehow be upset. But I'm not, and that's a good thing.. but when why does my heart feel like it wants to crumble? "

 

She covered her face with her hoofs, as the tears continued to flow.

He listened to her close as she explained herself to him, he wasn't quite sure he understood why she was upset with him either but soon it all made sense to him. "It meant a lot to you." He said aloud. By the time he looked back over to her she was in tears, crying deeply. The stallion couldn't stand the sight of a mare crying, especially not Starshy.  He got up from his seat and moved closer to her, his hoof pressing against the blanket she had wrapped herself with. "Star..." He said softly. 

 

"Please don't cry." He said as he hugged around her, his large body embraced hers as she continued to cry. He spoke softly. "I promise you it will happen. But that's part of the reason I came here. I wanted to tell you I'm ready to introduce you to my family... officially. I think it's time I stepped up." He said.

Starshy was sniffling a bit as she cried, unaware that Chocolate had moved over. She then felt him embracing her with his larger body, speaking in a soft voice.

 

She wanted to trust his words so much, he sounded sincere. Starshy hoped that he was a type of stallion that kept to his word. She lifted her head slightly after she had a moment to calm herself.

 

What he said next gave her a small joy as well as nervousness. What would his folks think of her? So many scenarios ran though her head as she sat there. 

 

" Okay, but not today. I'm a mess.. your parents wouldn't approve of me if they saw me like this. " She mumbled, lowering her head again.

Chocolate touched her face with his hoof and made her look up into his eyes. "They will like you no matter how you look. Because you always look good to me." He said wiping her eyes with his hoof gently. "No more tears, I hate to see you like this." He said trying to cheer her up. "Now let's get you all cleaned up. You're much too beautiful for this blanket look." He said hugging her close. 

He helped her prepare, even if she wasn't going with him back to the farm he wanted her to look her best if they decided to leave her house. "Have you eaten breakfast yet?" He asked softly.

Starshy wanted to tug the blanket back but let him take it. There were a few bruises on her body, ones she hadn't noticed forming till last night as she tried to sleep. He had been a bit rougher with her than she excepted. At the time it was all in the moment and it hadn't hurt then. Now, however, it was different. 

 

She covered what she could of herself with her hooves, feeling self-conscious.  " No, I haven't eaten anything yet.. just made myself tea. "

Chocolate looked down to her smaller body once the blanket was pulled back and he looked shocked. Her smaller form was covered in bruises and he then realized why she had been hiding from him. "Star I'm sorry..." He apologized his head. Nothing he could say now would undo the damage he did to her. It was sadly a result of him just being too passionate with his delicate unicorn mare. Even he couldn't control his strength when he got like that, surely she knew he never meant to harm her, especially like this...

He slowly placed the blanket back over her body and nodded. "We should... probably wait until you have healed a bit." He said in agreement. "If you still can't stand I'll make you something." He offered as he began to trot to her kitchen.

Starshy laid down on the couch, resting her head upon a pillow as Chocolate wandered into her kitchen. She wondered to herself as she lay there if she could heal herself, like she had the ability to do with other ponies. Although they were just bruises, not a broken bone. She knew many spells of the basic magic that all unicorns learn; how to levitate object, how to make objects move, etc. Although there were still many spells, advanced ones at that, which Starshy didn't know how to do. Age spells, for example. Perhaps she could attend a school somewhere in Equestria to learn more.

 

The idea of going to school sounded intriguing to her. Since she and Chocolate were not going to be married or even have any children anytime soon, it would probably be a good idea. Education is certainly important to her parents, she did have some money put away; both from working at Sugarcube Corner and a hefty sum given to her from her mother and father. She could definitely pay for it. The more that she thought about it, the more she liked it. 

 

Although, she wasn't sure how Chocolate would take it. Going to school would mean she'd have to be away for some time.

Chocolate returned holding a plate in his muzzle. He wasn't renown for his culinary skills but what he had prepared was decent enough. He set the plate down on the table in front of her and picked up her tea cup. "I'll refill this for you." He said taking it back to the kitchen. When he returned with new hot tea he took a seat beside her and sighed as he looked down to his hoofs. There was a long period of silence and then he finally could take no more. His eyes drifted down to the floor.

"Please don't hate me..."

He began to speak again. "You are the greatest thing to happen to me and I feel like I'm losing you." He admitted. "Even if you can't forgive me now, I hope you will sometime in the future."

When Chocolate returned from the kitchen, Starshy pulled herself up slightly into a sitting position. Her eyes looked down at the plate of food he bought, and then he left again to refill her tea.

 

After he was done with that, he sat next to her, and she made sure to curl her legs in to give him more room. There was a silence that followed, and Starshy wanted to speak up to tell him her idea but he said something first.

 

" Please don't hate me.. "

 

She opened her mouth just a tad, but then he spoke up again. She closed it and let him say what he needed to.

 

"You are the greatest thing to happen to me and I feel like I'm losing you."

 

"Even if you can't forgive me now, I hope you will sometime in the future."

 

Starshy shook her head. " I don't hate you, Chocolate. I never could. You aren't loosing me either, I still love you very much. " She said, smiling gently.

 

" But there's something I want to tell you though.." She nibbled on her lower lip of her muzzle before continuing. " I think that I'm going to enroll in a university, perhaps the one in Fillydelphia or Baltimare. Whatever one has a better magic program. "

Chocolate looked very relieved when she spoke of not hating him. He had been worried about it ever since she seemed to act indifferent around him. Perhaps it was just her being sore both physically and mentally from the whole ordeal? Even then she spoke again, and the stallion made sure to pay attention to what she had to say. It sounded very important. She spoke of returning to school and the stallion nodded, "That sounds like a good idea. Getting your education would be great for you."

He thought for a moment then looked to her again. "But Fillydelphia or Baltimare? That's way out there... you and I wouldn't be able to see each other if you went out there." He said realizing what this all came down to.

Starshy nodded. " Yes, I realize this. However, since we aren't married or having foals anytime soon it would be best time for me to go. There is still so much more for me to learn about magic. I could even become something great, like a nurse. I mean, who knows.. " 

 

She paused a moment, feeling like this was the best course of action. Even though she had been disappointed about before, it was turning out to be a blessing in disguise. 

 

" I can keep in touch with you though letters. I'll also come back during holiday breaks. It's not going to be forever.. " She explained, leaning back into the couch.

He seemed a little reluctant to let her go at first but then he thought about what she was saying and it was true. If she could learn more magic she would be better off, not that what she was doing now was bad. Working at Sugarcube was probably better than what he was doing now with his life on the farm. He looked into her eyes as he spoke back to her. "I suppose... but when will you be leaving if you do?" He asked curious of when she intended to leave.

Star had a feeling he was going to hesitate about her going. It wasn't as though she wanted to leave him, but it would be a good experience for her.

 

" Well, I still have to write them an letter to see if they'll even accept me. I'm not going to head off to either place unless I know for sure that they'll have me as a student. "

 

She used her magic again to levitate the cup of tea so that she could take a sip. It was a bit cold from sitting on the table, but she drank some anyway. Putting the cup down, she levitated up the plate of food that he made her and ate a bit of it.

Chocolate sat with her in silence. He let her eat and finish her tea before he began to speak again. "I will support you no matter what you choose, Starshy." He said looking to her as she took a sip of her tea. "We can wait until you come back from school before we meet each other's parents." He said putting the idea on the backburner for the time being. "In the mean time I can help you write the letter if need be. Just let me know if there is anything I can do to help." 

The large stallion got up off of the couch and started to head towards the door. "I have to get back to the farm for some early morning duties. Let me know if you want me come over and check on you this afternoon."

Starshy nodded at him, getting herself comfortable. She had a feeling that even though he said he was going to support her, he didn't really want her to leave.

 

"See you later, Chocolate" she said as he headed for the door.

 

Once she was alone again, she yawned and stretched out on the couch.

Chocolate trotted back to his farm, his mind deep in thought the entire time. With her new plans to return to school for magic it didn't leave him very many options to visit with her. Sure she would write to him and such but he had never been in a long distance relationship, let alone a close distance one up until now. He made it back to his farm just in time to start the morning chores, now he was curious about how he was going to get along without her. He was now regretting not introducing her to his parents earlier.

Starshy slept a bit after Chocolate had left. She didn't realize just how tired she really was. Could she possibly do it again, if this was always the outcome? The unicorn mare was not sure but she knew one thing - it wouldn't be for a long time she imagined.

 

After having a decent nap, Starshy was able to move around a little and get a few things done around the house. Although she went about it slowly it was at least getting done.

 

By midafternoon, she was considering going over to Sugarcube Corner.  But how could she face Ms. Cake and Mr. Cake? What would they say about her bruises? She couldn't exactly hide them - they were fairly visible no thanks to her white coat. She could wear something to cover them up yet she wasn't one to wear things usually. 

 

Instead, she settled on putting together her letter for the university of fillydelphia - to get a start on it. She went upstairs to her bedroom, where she sat upon the bed with her head resting against the pillows. She used magic to get a piece of parchment and a quill to write with. Once they were floating in front of her, the quill began to move on the parchment, writing out what she was saying.

Chocolate had worked twice as hard on the farm and his family was starting to take notice. His cousin came close as he was lifting huge bales of hay on his back and smirked. "So where's the girl?" She asked assuming the worse had happened between the two of them. "She is studying for magic school." He answered knowing she was trying to get a reaction out of him. "So she dumped you huh?" She asked with a gleam in her eye. "..." He didn't say anything and went about his work as usual ignoring her for the rest of the day.

Once the day had passed he saw it was getting a little dark out. He wiped the sweat from his brow and looked towards the exit of the farm. Beyond those fences was Ponyville and Starshy. Should he pay her a visit or leave her be? He looked to his hoof then decided for now it would be best to give her her space. She had things to do if she wanted to go to school and he would only distract her. With a small nod he went back into the house for the night.

Starshy finished the rest of the letter by evening. It was already dark out when she glanced out the window from her bedroom. She had had to spend a lot of time thinking, correcting, and editing her letter. 

 

With a small sigh, she placed the letter into an envelope and set it by her bedside table. Crawling into her sheets, she quickly fell asleep.

The next morning, Starshy awoke fairly early. She hopped out of the bed and went about her morning routine. She took a shower, brushed her mane/tail, dried them magically (and styled them as well with magic), dressed into a light pink sweater and dark brown/nougat colored skirt. The clothing rid her bruises well, so no pony would notice.

 

After she was done getting ready, she left her house and made her way to Chocolate's farm. She was a bit nervous to see many of his family before him and hopefully they wouldn't give her any trouble. 

 

The morning breeze felt good in Starshy's mane as she went along in a slow trot.

It was very early in the morning, and it was the one time Chocolate had slept past his normal routine. Instead of Chocolate being the first stallion to greet her as she approached the farm, she saw his younger brother. A lighter brown colored stallion that almost looked as though he were waiting for her. He trotted closer to her and looked her over, "So your that mare eh? The one he keeps talking about?" He asked as he waited at the gate for her. 

"Don't worry, I haven't passed judgement on you yet." He said as his eyes instantly went to her horn. "Unlike the others I want to see if you can work as well as Chocolate says you do... or was our cousin right about you unicorns?" He said referring back to the mare she had encountered that one faithful day. "What's your name anyway? Mine is Caramel the 2nd."
