[Chocolate 109]

He looked over his shoulder and saw a few ponies that were enjoying their breakfast that were giving them smiles. He blushed a bit, he would remember to keep things like that private. It was a shame that complete strangers were more accepting of his relationship with Starshy than his own family. He knew he wouldn't be able to hide their relationship for long, especially if they were going to be working together back on his farm. But how would he get them to accept her?

 

It was just then the stallion was hit with an idea. "Starshy, I think I know how to get my family to accept you." He said trotting beside her to the theater. "Would you like to hear?"

Trotting along side her coltfriend, Starshy heard him say something about how he could get his family to accept her. That was rather out of the blue, but hey, at least he trying to think of something.

 

" Yes, of course. I do want your families approval. We may not be getting married or anything but it'd be nice to not hide it from them. " Starshy nodded. Speaking of parents, she thought of her own. They wouldn't be as disapproving, probably. She hadn't seen them for a while and she made a mental note to go visit them sometime in the near future.

He took a deep breath and looked down to her as they trotted alongside one another. He slowed his pace a bit when he noticed they were nearing their destination. "I want you to hear me out... what if I were to get injured on the farm? Like very badly injured?" He asked raising his head and giving her a small smile hoping she understood what he was hinting at. "Think about it, Star. It would not only allow you to show off your healing powers but it would also show them that you can do what I can even when I'm not around. I think they might appreciate you more if that was the case." 

 

He paused and looked to her horn once more. "You... are capable of healing with your magic?"

Starshy looked concerned at his suggestion. She didn't know if that could really work.

 

"I appreciate you trying to think of something but wouldn't that make them angrier? They could just fix you up, and it would take longer, but me showing off my magic would be just that - showing off. That I can heal you faster with magic and you don't need good old fashion rest and healing up slowly..." She sighed heavily.

 

"I want the approval of your family but without my magic to prove it. They obviously don't like it since they think I have it easier or something..as if I'm lazy and can't do anything without magic."

He stared at her for a moment and then nodded. She had a good point, there was no point in trying to sway them with her magical abilities. He thought it was incredible but his family didn't share the same views. "You are right..." He said sadly. He moved close to her and nuzzled her, "I don't think you are lazy at all. I love your magic, Star." He said hoping to cheer her up a little. "We'll think of something." 

 

When they arrived in the theater he offered to pay for them both again. He made it a habit of doing it since he never really spent any of his earnings from the farm. "Which would you like to watch? I hear the Great and Powerful Trixie had an amazing show."

 "I don't think you are lazy at all. I love your magic, Star." 

"We'll think of something"

 

Starshy was much relived to hear this. " Thank you, Chocolate. For understanding. " She smiled once again, back to her cheerful self. Now that the subject has shifted, she could think about what they were going to see at this little theater they had just arrived at. When she heard his suggestion of seeing the magic show, she gave a nod of approval. She'd never seen a magic show before - never had anyone to see it with before. Just being with Chocolate was opening up all these opportunities to do things that she would otherwise pass up.

He was happy to see she approved of the idea of watching a magic show. Maybe he could learn more about it, though he knew if he had any questions he would be able to ask Starshy and she would more than likely have the answer. He hoped he wasn't making her uncomfortable with his obsession over learning magic. He happily joined her and watched the show with her.

 

The two spent the rest of the afternoon together and when they exited he seemed to have enjoyed himself. "That was incredible, I was not even aware one could do such amazing tricks with magic like that." He stopped himself and leaned down to nuzzle her. "Not as amazing as you." He said hoping she didn't mistake his magic fascination with affection for the performer. "We still have a few hours before I need to head back to the farm. I would love to see where you work and what you do, if that is alright with you."

Starshy had enjoyed herself as well, the magic show was quite entertaining. She had glanced over a few times at Chocolate, finding the awed look on his face adorable. Then again, she was finding a lot of what Chocolate did to be cute. She could not help herself, not that she'd ever say. He might not like it if she said something he does was "cute". 

 

" Oh sure, I can show you Sugarcube Corner. It's a cute little bakery. It's just over this way. " Starshy grinned, trotting along ahead of him - suddenly seeming a bit edgier then usual. She wanted to ask Chocolate something rather embarrassing about tonight but was not sure how to bring up the subject. The last two nights he had bought her home - and he'd leave as usual. But tonight - she wanted him to stay with her. She didn't know if he'd even accept or consider it - not that she thought they'd /do/ anything - just the thought of cuddling up next to him as she fell asleep sounded so much more wonderful.

Chocolate gave a warm smile as she trotted ahead of him and blushed to himself. He wasn't sure why, but she was flustering him more than usual. This was the closest relationship he had with a mare and if he played his cards right this would be something that could last and maybe become more? Could they eventually become a married couple? Maybe even have a colt or foal of their own? Goodness... the thought was making him blush even more.

 

When the two arrived at Sugarcube corner he ducked down in the doorway and immediately caught the scent of many baked goods and sweets. Including one of his favorites, chocolate. "Oh... that smell." He said letting his sentence trail. "You really work here? What is it like? If you work here then did you take the position on my farm as a part time job?" He caught himself and stopped the barrage of questions for a while. "The more I learn about you, the more questions I gain it seems." He said a bit embarrassed.

Starshy couldn't help giggling a bit at all his sudden questions. " Yes, I do work here. From time to time. Mrs. Cake tends to get busy, and needs extra assistance aside from her husband." She explained, flicking her tail side to side as she spoke. The delicious smells coming from the back greeted her nostrils instantly, making her salivate.

 

" It's fun, Mrs. Cake is a delight. She's so sweet - like the cupcakes and treats that she bakes. I took that job at your farm because... well, I wanted to see you again. The work was just an excuse, really.. " Starshy admitted sheepishly.

"An excuse?" He repeated unsure of how he felt about her explanation. On one hoof he was happy she had done what she could to be by his side, but at the same time he knew that kind of went against his work ethic. He seemed a bit upset for a moment then looked into her eyes. Didn't take long for him to soften up and smile, there was no way he could be upset with her. She was just too cute, kind, and caring and it wasn't in his nature.

 

He cared for her too much, and besides... she was a very hard worker. "I'm glad you did. I have not had this much fun before, even at the resort. It's all thanks to you, Star." He trotted over to some of the displays and eyed some of the sweets in the glass case. "I'd like to come here and help you on occasion." He said softly. "I could be a delivery stallion or maybe even help you in the back?" He asked throwing out ideas.

Starshy suddenly felt bad for what she had said. He had looked so upset for a moment. Even though he had moved onto another subject, she still wanted to apologize.

 

"Chocolate, I'm sorry. It's not as though I don't enjoy working on the farm with you. I just...didn't know how to come see you. I didn't know if you were still with the other mare you had met at the resort. I was holding myself back from coming to visit - knowing how much you are busy with your farming work. " she was rambling a bit, trying to get the words out.

As she started to speak he knew it was because she had seen his reaction to her comment. Had his reaction been that unsubtle? As she explained herself to him, about halfway through he gently placed his large hoof on her muzzle hoping to calm her. "It is alright. I understand what you meant." He said in his warm deep voice. "To be honest I had wanted to speak to you since the resort but you looked happy when you were around the other stallion." 

 

He lowered his hoof down to the floor again and tilted his head. "And to me, that was more important than anything else. Even if I couldn't be your special somepony, I wanted to see you happy... even if it meant you being with somepony else." He explained. "I remember when I saw you coming to the farm, it was a moment I will never forget. And then when you said your true feelings for me, it was the single greatest moment I have experienced."

 

He smiled to her. "So please don't apologize. It would mean a lot to me if I can see your smile again. I don't like to see you sad."

Starshy fell silent as he spoke, and with his words her initially worry melted away. She was pleased to hear that he had cared about her since the resort and had wanted to be with her as they were know. 

 

She smiled, nodding a bit. She glanced at the display case filled with all the treats and then back at Chocolate. She suddenly remember the question she had been meaning to ask him. She couldn't ask about that now though... 

 

" So um, shall we head back to my place? I could make you something like hot chocolate. "

"Back to your place? Yes, I'd like that." He said with a resolute nod. "I can walk you back home if you'd like." He said halfway out of the door. He hadn't shown it, but he had been wanting to speak with her alone for a while but they had been all over Ponyville and there was never a good time for it. But he felt that once he walked her home and they were in front of her house, he could speak with her alone. He wasn't aware she had plans to invite him inside.

 

The two trotted together in silence, Chocolate kept his eyes down on the ground as he thought about what he was going to say to her once they were at her home. But before he knew it, they were already there. He stopped in front of her doorway and looked down to her. "I had fun today, Star." He started.

Starshy had been looking at the ground the whole time they were trotting back to her place. She had been trying to formulate the words in her head. By the time they reached her house, which didn't seem that long at all, she felt anxious again.

 

There was a lump forming in her throat out of nervousness. " I- " She swallowed, trying again, " I- Chocolate... would... you maybe - stay here the night? " She looked up at him, flushing with embarrassment.  " N-Not like.. we'd just.. " she was trying to explain, starting to pace back and fourth in an attempt to calm herself.

 

She stopped her pacing after a moment, swallowing again. Her nervous eyes looked up at him once more. " Please? "

Chocolate looked puzzled as Starshy began to stutter and pace. Occasionally his ears would perk as she spoke but he was unable to figure out what she was trying to ask him. Before long she had worked out the question and he stood perfectly still as her words sunk in. Spend the night? At her place? His eyes moved from her to the door and then back to her again. He could see how flustered she was and it made him smile a little, looking down into her cute flushed face was enough to let him know how much it meant to her. And it wasn't like he hadn't thought about spending more time with her either.

 

He had even thought about asking her to spend the night with him on the farm on a few occasions. However, with his family the way they were now... He realized he had gotten lost in thought again and saw her looking at him expectantly. 

 

" Please? "

 

He rubbed his leg with his hoof and then looked off to the side. "It is getting late, and I don't have anything to do tomorrow." He said blushing as well. "I will stay if that is what you wish..." He said accepting her invitation with a small smile. Though he appeared calm on the outside, his heart was pounding in his chest and he was panicking a bit. He had never been in another mare's home before and he didn't want to mess anything up. "...I love to spend the night... with you."

"...I love to spend the night... with you." 

 

The white unicorn mare breathed out a sigh of relief. After all this time worrying about it the whole day, he had accepted. Starshy looked much chipper now, turning to face the front door and used her magic to open it. Licking the lower part of her muzzle, her horn suddenly became much brighter than usual and the whole house was encased in the same glow - and her house was growing in size. She was making it more suitable for Chocolate to walk around more comfortably. The spell was over as quickly as it started and Starshy's house looked a smudge different than before. She glanced back at Chocolate with a grin. " Now you won't be hitting your head on anything. " She said while going inside.

He watched a bit in surprise and blinked as she used her magic to make her house grow. He couldn't believe she was capable of doing that, it was almost scary to think of what she might be capable of. If she could expand her house like this, then what else could she do? He seemed a little daunted by her at this point but it was more of a respectful gaze rather than one of fear. "This is incredible..." He said as he trotted in after her. "Magic to make a house grow? I never knew..." He said looking around her house in wonder. 

 

He stepped in but remained still in the walk in area. He wasn't sure where he was welcome to go. He didn't want to intrude either. "Where did you learn a magic spell like that?" He asked staring at her in wonderment.

" From books. I've read a lot of books about magic. " Starshy replied, as she trotted into her bigger kitchen space. Everything was still in the same places but the kitchen itself had expanded and it was much spacer than she was use to. It was a small matter though, using her magic once again to get some coco mix from a shelf and levitating it over to the counter by the stove. 

 

" You are welcome to have a seat somewhere. Don't need to stand there in the doorway. " She added from a moment, getting some water for the kettle.

"Oh right, it's just that I have never been inside somepony else's house before. He said looking around as he trotted into the living room, he was impressed by how large the house had become. He took a seat in the living room and waited patiently for her to finish up in the kitchen. Though the more he thought about it, shouldn't he be helping her while she is in there? He leaned his head over and peeked into the kitchen. "Do you need anything? I mean, can I help you with anything?"

" No, silly. I'm just making hot chocolate. " Starshy glanced at him for a brief second, shaking her head. She then turned her attention back to the kettle that was heating up.Once the steam started to come out, she magically turned off the stove and carefully poured the hot water into two mugs. 

 

After she got the hot chocolate ready, she trotted back into the living room, the two mugs floating in midair with her levitation spell. She set them down on the table by the couch that Chocolate was sitting on. She sat on a single couch chair, getting comfortable.

 

Starshy levitated her cup towards her, guiding it to be held between her hooves. She took a small sip, glancing at Chocolate. " I'm so happy you agreed. I was afraid you wouldn't. "

Chocolate returned back to the living room and took a seat on the couch. Again, he found himself looking around her house, taking mental notes of her decorations and tastes in items, just in case he ever went gift shopping. When Starshy came back into the living room he sat still, looking like an attentive student in a classroom as he watched her close. He could see two floating mugs levitating in the air which she was controlling with magic. He watched as she took a delicate sip of her fresh hot chocolate and glanced down to his mug.

 

He always had trouble with any silverware or kitchen wares that weren't custom made in a larger size. He tried to hold the smaller mug between his large hoofs and shakily lifted it to his muzzle, struggling not to let it slip from his grip or break it.

 

" I'm so happy you agreed. I was afraid you wouldn't. "

 

He placed the mug down without taking a drink. It was a little too hot anyway. "Why would I say no? You know I'd do anything for you, Star." He said deeply. "Besides, it is not like I haven't thought about doing this before... errr... staying at your house I mean." He said blushing a bit. "This just means we can spend more time together alone." He said looking down to his steaming mug.

Starshy blushed at his words. She was fairly pleased to know that she was not the only one having those thoughts too. It probably was a bit forward of her. She had never asked a stallion to stay over night at her home before. Sure, she had cuddled with another stallion once, in a bed, but that was at a resort.

 

She took another tiny sip of her drink, savoring the taste. She imagined it was what the stallion across from her must taste like. That thought made her turn pinkish again.

 

"You have no idea how this makes me feel, Chocolate. I've been so lonely. Working at the Sugarcube corner has always been a reminder that I didn't have anyone special in my life. Many couples come in asking for wedding cakes, anniversary cakes, birthday cakes for their little foals....and I was envious. " her face was slightly downcast as she spoke.

 

"But seeing you again and being with you has brought back the happiness that I was longing for."

Chocolate looked across the table as Starshy began to speak of her experiences after what had taken place at the resort. She had been just as lonely as he had been, if not worse, constantly being reminded of couples as she worked at Sugarcube corner. It reminded him of his experiences as well. He hadn't quite been the same since he had come back to the farm. After coming so close to having a mare friend he found himself longing for something, a relationship of his own.

 

It wasn't long before he had contemplated giving up having any relationship at all, that was until she had come trotting up to his farm on that special day. He nodded in response to her kind and honest words and spoke as well. "Star, I promise so long as I am able, I will be by your side. You will not be lonely again." He said putting his hoof on the table as if reaching for her. "I love you, Star." He said making eye contact with her.
