Viricide Filly - Shadow Of Oppression (Hard Dubstep about Sombra)

Viricide Filly

Recommended Posts

So, my name is Viricide, and I produce EDM brony music. I rarely do dubstep, but I did this one time, and the song got to Equestria Daily, so I figured you guys would also approve.

It starts off with a build-up arp + rumbling bass for a decent build-up, before the main chords kick in. Then the drop starts, which is meant to be super hard hitting. I'll leave the rest for you to listen. If you don't like it, don't blame me :P blame Equestria Daily for liking it xD

Omnipony is one guy and he's not really my cup of tea, but that's only because of my professional critique point of view >.> I used to like him, and I still like a few of his songs like Time Is running Out and My Little Changeling.

Eh, im not really feeling it myself. At all really.

What im assuming was supposed to be the build up just felt odd and not much of a build up (it really wasnt one at all). And same for the "drop". There wasnt one.

Good job getting it on EQD though.

Way ahead of ya there.

No problem, it's okay if you don't like it. I hardly produce dubstep anyway, I'm more house and experimental. Although, I think it's unfair about the drop not even being there...it IS kinda obvious, to me and a lot of other people anyway...you might be more used to stuff like brostep etc (Something I'm never going to produce). Do you have any ideas on how I could make the drops better in future if I do this stuff again?

The vocal sampling seems to overshadow the instrumental at times. The ARP isn't bad, but the synth that accompanies it is very simple and makes the song sound less professional than it could be. The drop has had no transition. Transitioning is important to keep the flow of the song. The beat is very basic and keeps the song boring. I recommend listening to other dubstep tracks and listening to the beat rhythms between the kick, snare, and drop. I'm sorry but, as Haven said, I'm not feeling it. Also, I am not going to blame Equestria Daily for liking it, since I don't. I'm going to blame you, because you made the track, and I'm addressing my critique to you, not Equestria Daily.

I think the drop does have transition, in my opinion. I can't really correct stuff because I can't seem to find what's wrong with it, despite what all of you are saying. Maybe I should just stick to bloody house in the future.

Eeewwww, brostep.

I actually dont listen to very much brostep as i usually despise it.

As for the drop, it needs a better indicator of it coming. Like, if you put either a synth rising in pitch or a kick drum that increases in speed with all sounds cutting off when the sound clip plays would give it more of a generic drop feeling. Really, anything can be used and not just only a kick. Thats where creativity comes in.

I know all that is describing the build up, but without that, you cant really get the same "dropping" feel. Atleast, going by what im used to. Which is why it didn't feel like one to me. Other than that its really just how your wobble bass comes in afterwards.
