Where to get cosplay stuff?

I'm going to Ponycon AU in February next year, and having never cosplayed before in my life, I decided I may as well get a costume together.

Unfortunately, everything I can find is either ridiculously expensive or really bad quality.

So is there any good site for getting pony-related cosplays? To be specific I'm planning to go as Rainbow Dash, but all I can find that is both cheap and nice looking are some plush wings on WeLoveFine.

Well, the beauty about cosplaying in the MLP fandom is that there's no specific vision for the characters that you have to stick to, so a good start would be to find a humanized Rainbow Dash design you like. In fact, you could try to imagine a regular outfit that human Rainbow Dash would wear, so you might be able to find something decent at Goodwill, Target, Kohl's, or any other reliable clothing store.

For the wig, I found several decent ones on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/bhp/rainbow-dash-wig

There's a lot of options available for your style and budget.

So, give me some links to a couple of humanized Rainbow Dash designs you like and we can go from there.

When I think about cosplay, half of the fun for me is the DIY part!

Might not look all glossy finish at first, but heck, you will have fun and learn new stuff!

Starting off with a full fursuit might be a bit ambitious, but there are heaps of other things you can do! I would love to help with ideas! Just name  how you imagine it!

Other option! If you have a friend or relative handy with sewing machine, making a onesie is not that difficult (I'm planning a catbug onesie for my special somepony at some stage)

Also, if you are brave enough, dyeing your real hair into RD's colors would grant you a lot of attention! http://haircrazy.com/ has a friendly forum with a lot of pegasisters who would be happy to help with planning and carrying out a dye job!

A note about wigs. Wigs that are "cheap" are never worth buying for cosplay. And it can be really hard to find what you are looking for when it comes to balancing between your wallet and quality, but know this: if you spend money on cheap junk, then you have wasted all of that money for something worthless. If you can invest in a decently nice wig, do it.

I know that you are in Australia, but there is an American wig company that ships internationally that I recommend. They are inexpensive for the quality that the provide in each wig, and they really are nice wigs. I have a link to a rainbow wig that I know is popular with Rainbow Dash cosplayers.http://arda-wigs.com/collections/stardust

Now, don't let this be your only option. See if you can find online cosplay communities of people in your country and see what their options were. Google is your friend.

Also, putting together your own costume is a lot of fun. I don't sew, but there is a thrill about being able to find the exact right article of clothing on eBay.
