FLARE 952 February 16, 2012 Share February 16, 2012 (edited) If you see a mail mares thread, and someone makes, pretty much a clone of it (well seeing as its from EqD its quite possible that the person who made the "clone" thread didn't even see the mail mares thread) should they be merged/ do they? I REALLY hate to pick on people, and this has happened a lot, but a prime example of what I am talking about is here http://mlpforums.com...my-little-pony/ http://mlpforums.com...t-with-bronies/ Should there be rules as to what you can post, if its come directly from EqD (but then, what if the person who made that topic didn't get the art video object thing from EqD but just random searching...) so what do you think? is this a minor problem or not really? and most importantly, should I/others report that thread in hope the both get merged, so we can have the discussion in one place? Zoop 8,384 February 17, 2012 Share February 17, 2012 Honestly, I don't see an issue with it. The threads in the pony bulletin always appear in chronological order and cannot be bumped, making them more suited to brief comments regarding the article in question than full-on discussion.

Sorta like the difference between a status update and a thread, but atleast these threads can SOMETIMES have some sustenance to it, so that you can actually discuss. Zoop 8,384 February 17, 2012 Share February 17, 2012 hmm, well I don't see much of a point in having a thread dedicated to brief comments and an identical one dedicated to discussion. The alternative is to lock the mailmare threads from the get-go and force people to make a new thread for any comment they may wish to make regarding the content in question. As it stands the threads are unlocked only as a convenience for people that may want to share some brief thoughts on something that is posted, with the understanding that said thoughts will not result in the thread being bumped. Given the transient nature of the mailmare threads, I don't see any sense in merging regular threads that might promote long term discussion into them; meanwhile, merging the mailmare thread(s) into the regular threads would serve no real purpose beyond breaking up the Pony Bulletin post archive. tl;dr, I honestly see this as a non-issue. I don't see a point in having a thread dedicated to comments. Please describe to me how you would like to see this implemented, keeping in mind that enabling and encouraging bumping in said threads would ultimately defeat the purpose of having an organized news feed, wherein the primary focus is on the latest community happenings as reported on by Equestria Daily, and in time, other sources as well. How come it can't be both, a news feed and a discussion thread place? maybe if it did have bumping, the thread would get less ignored and people would notice those threads more often, and if they see a thread about a topic they were going to make, they would reconsider it. however I now see how that would ruin it being a organized news feed, I have a stupid argument for that, if people wanted a organized news feed so much, how come they can't use the RSS feed? ' okay crazy stupid and over the top idea time that is extremely impractical. When you post in a mail mare thread, it is duplicated to a sub forum of the pony bulletin where bumping works so that people can discuss while still allowing others to check at a glace the latest news from various pony sources... I mean it could work...if it was worth all that effort, unless something like that was extremely easy to make, and I assume it would not be. The entire point of the Pony Bulletin, from the start, was to give people who may not be familiar with things like RSS feeds, readers, and the like a one-stop shop for pony news that they could visit without leaving this site or community. :|

FLARE 952 February 17, 2012 Author Share February 17, 2012 Lock the thread? But... why would I ever do that? because this thread was created on the idea that the pony bulletin could also be used for discussion, apparently its not made for that, not much else to say anymore.
