akalink 163 August 6, 2013 Share August 6, 2013 There have been a couple episdoes that are based of folklore, mythology, and religious stories. Examples would be like the sisters Celestia and Luna are based off of several mythological demi-gods and gods. The story of Applejack's cutie mark could be based on the parable of the prodigal son. The episode where the Flim-Flam brothers come to town is based on a American folk tale. The question I present to you would be which stories would you like to see episodes based on. One story that would be cool is the story of the ring of power. It been redone to death though. Wagner's Ring Cycle, The Lord of the Rings, and Soulcalibur are all based on that story. Perhaps the story of the Maccabees. Would make an awesome flashback story, an kingdom is oppressing a group of ponies. Its essentially the Hanukkah story. Wow this is harder than I thought it would be.
I used to be a stranger 7,994 August 7, 2013 Share August 7, 2013 (edited) Perhaps, but there was [i daresay] damage done when in Feeling Pinkie Keen audiences misinterpreted "silly antics" as "direct analogy of faith" and interpreted the episode as a postulate of dichotomizing reason and belief. A rather absurd interpretation to be sure. Bringing any direct religious reference, even cautiously, would be very dangerous subject matter due to the fickle nature of audiences. Dangerous, due to how easily it could go very wrong. There is a plethora of folktales and so on to reference, and I'm sure that they'll get to ones worth ribbing in time. They've also already done George Bernard Shaw's Androcles & The Lion with the Manticore in Friendship is Magic, Part 2.
