Retired Commissar 305 August 13, 2013 Share August 13, 2013 I wish to make an OC but I want to make it myself. I'm not great at drawing but if you want some examples check out my deviant art page: http://ranger-dashie.deviantart.com/ But anyways back to the problem. I don't know what to name my pony or what to make him look like. I also don't know if I should hand draw him or use a program. I'm more used to hand drawing but I'm sure I could learn on the PC but I don't have a very steady hand :L All I'm asking is that those questions get answered and someone could help how to become a better artist. Mr F 1,522 August 13, 2013 Share August 13, 2013 (edited) i am bad at drawing but i recommend you to just reflect your personality on it (if you are good at something you may want to show your best talent as a cutie mark like a pencil in an x form with a paint brush or something like that if you are good at drawing or a chainsaw if you are jason) and make it your favorite pony type and color it in a way to reflect personality like green if it is a farmer (not neccecarily a good example). The name usually says something about it like Fluttershy she is shy... yeah. and draw it in the way you perfer PC or by hand does not matter too much. Somepony thinks it looks better if made on PC so do what you perfer drawing on pc is recommended thogh. (btw nice work on the drawings on your DA looks nice) Edited August 13, 2013 by a crazy pony 1 (Really cool signature)
GreyScholar 1,584 August 13, 2013 Share August 13, 2013 A pony's name can be reflected by a number of things: their appearance, their personality, or what their special talent is. An Example: Mythos Gray is my main pony I roleplay with, his name reflecting the fact of his talent and moral outlook. Mythos is a word connected to stories, mythologies, and can even reflect the morals and values shown in myths. Gray reflects the color of his coat as well as his basic morality being of a more neutral mindset, neither completely good or completely bad.
Silverwisp the Bard 2,353 August 13, 2013 Share August 13, 2013 (edited) If you want to create a ponysona (representation for yourself), then model the pon after you, like Crazy Pony said. Otherwise I'd suggest take a character from another genre (or better smudge several together) and work them into a pony. Same for the look, find some character design you like and ponify it. If you want, I can draw your OC for you For example: My first OC Silverwisp is loosely based on a character named Leslac from a somewhat obscure book series, the name is from a name generator (S and W are my initales) and I added the hat as a gimmick to make him more memorable. Edited August 13, 2013 by Silverwisp the Bard 1 My Art Thread, updated (almost) daily Tomorrow will take us away, far from home No one will ever know our names But the bard songs will remain.
