Your opinions about the future of Background Ponies

We've seen plenty of our favorite background ponies and yet still ask for so much out of these distant characters. In future seasons of MLP what do you think will happen with the Background characters?

Will the get slightly more important roles?

Will we get new ones?

Will we see them doing what we love to see them doing? (Maybe more fan-pandering)

(Bonus Note: I also have a question regarding something interesting. Have any new background ponies risen in popularity since season 3? Or have we been sticking to the "classics." To my knowledge I can only remember ones from seasons 1 and 2)

I would like to see our Doctor whooves and Derpy be seen more often, maybe still in the background but seen a little bit more easily. So we have a clear definition. I would also like to see maybe a music pony episode where Vinyl and octavia are involved.
