Heartstrong 12 September 8, 2013 Share September 8, 2013 I've had this idea in my head for a comic series for a while, but I'm not really sure if I should go for it or not, because I know that the majority of the brony fandom doesn't like when ponies and murder come together. Basically, though, it's a group of minor background ponies (and by minor, I mean those that are typically ignored by the fandom. No Derpy, Octavia, etc.) that are trapped in a house. One of these ponies is a killer. They kill off one pony right away, and the other ponies have to come up with a theory with how they died. Whoever comes up with the worst theory dies next. This goes on until there only two ponies left: the winner and the killer. The idea of solving the murder or dying next comes from the show Whodunnit?, though my idea has a lot of elements from a lot of different mysteries, the most prominent is And Then There Were None. There'd be very little gore. The murders won't be anything like Cupcakes or Cheerilee's Garden. There wont be any torture or delayed deaths. The deaths will be complicated, but not gruesome in the slightest. Very little blood, no brains, no broken bones, no severed body parts, no internal organs. I also thought it could be on Tumblr, so people can send in questions/commands, like "Check under the bed" or "Is that a scratch on the victim's cheek?" So it would be very interactive. Do you think this is a good idea, or is ponies and murder always a bad combination?
An Old Head 4,816 September 8, 2013 Share September 8, 2013 I think the main problem people have with murdering show characters is that most people do it for no good reason. As per Cupcakes and Sweet Apple Massacre getting bad rep because of the pointlessness behind pony deaths; whereas other fan fictions involving murder that are actually well written get good rep. Thus, go for it I'd like to see this happen myself, and would probably be one of the people sending in questions. It'd be interesting to see it pan out; just remember to stick to your own advice about gore, it might not go down too well if one of the deaths has slightly more violence than others. It was also a good idea to have them be insignificant background ponies. If they're unknown enough, most people will think they're OCs
Scootalove 10,689 September 8, 2013 Share September 8, 2013 Let's put it this way, there are murder stories that have a good reputation while others are exaggerated and get a bad reputation. I think you should go for it if your creativity comes to your mind, and you put that idea out for everyone to see. duidamasterXD 9,627 September 8, 2013 Share September 8, 2013 @Heartstrong, just letting you know that I've moved your thread to the Creative Resources section in Octavia's Hall, since you seem to be looking for feedback on an idea. Anyway, I think it's a great idea, but I might be biased just because I love mysteries
