Dragonheart 5 September 12, 2013 Share September 12, 2013 Hi everypony! My name is Dragonheart; I am the artist behind Mad Scientist's Lab! I've been at every BroNYcon since the first one and have been a brony since G1 My favorite pony is Zecora. The story behind Dragonheart? She's the nurse who takes care (*read as procures, if necessary ;P ) of the dragon eggs before they are brought to Equestria (i.e. she's the one who found Spike's egg for Twilight / Celestia). I thought it would be fun to have a back story that was for a topic never really explained in the show Thank you all for letting me join! I look forward to browsing all the awesome art and news!!! 2 I hand-paint many pony items from pajama pants to messenger bags to aprons in my small business Mad Scientist's Lab! Polaris 224 September 12, 2013 Share September 12, 2013 Nice artwork there! Welcome to the forums! Hopefully you'll find this place as fun as I do! ^^ 2 Special thanks to Lightning Bliss for this awesome signature!
NightFlower 12 September 13, 2013 Share September 13, 2013 That was a really good idea for a back story. I would have never thought of that. What else does Dragonheart do?
Dragonheart 5 September 13, 2013 Author Share September 13, 2013 Thank you guys for being so welcoming!!! Dragonheart's full story is that she is an adventuresome unicorn who enjoys living on the wild side (sometimes to her own detriment). She's also kind hearted and intelligent, but is not terribly socially adept. One day, she saw a baby dragon crying because its mother had abandoned it and it was not old enough to fight for itself. So, she decided to help it. ... It didn't go terribly smoothly, but it did introduce her to Dragon culture and, although she is not respected (since she IS a pony, after all) she held her own when talking with the dragons so they at least don't threaten to eat her Now, when they have problems with abandoned or unwanted eggs, they give them to her. She then carries them across the difficult terrain to the palace, where she keeps them in good health until Celestia needs them. There are never many at any one time: usually only one or two. And they do take a lot of care and time to keep, so she is kept busy on this task when she is not reading up about dragons or talking with them herself I hand-paint many pony items from pajama pants to messenger bags to aprons in my small business Mad Scientist's Lab! Flutterspark 48 September 14, 2013 Share September 14, 2013 Hi @@Dragonheart, Wow, you've been a Brony for a long time! Looking at your profile, you're into art and microbiology? That's so cool! What most interests you in that field? Nice OC, by the way. Do you like to roleplay? *brohoof*
Dragonheart 5 September 14, 2013 Author Share September 14, 2013 Yeah; I used to ask for ponies instead of barbies In microbiology, I'm studying microbes that make hydrogen from agricultural waste. We're trying to see under what environmental conditions certain genes are turned on so that we can make the process produce more hydrogen. The end goal is to have the farmers dump their waste into a vat with our microbes, which then produce hydrogen, so that the farmer can then burn the hydrogen to (hopefully, one day) run different parts of the farm! It is really cool As far as art + science, I think a lot of scientists are closet artists and vice versa. I've met a lot of awesome people as I go along and they're doing great things! Thank you for the OC compliments! I've never roleplayed as Dragonheart, but I do run a DnD campaign on weekends XD Are you a microbiologist too @Flutterspark? I love hearing what other people are doing! 1 I hand-paint many pony items from pajama pants to messenger bags to aprons in my small business Mad Scientist's Lab! Check us out at madlabcoats.com! Skylar 1,641 September 14, 2013 Share September 14, 2013 Greetings Dragonhead, you seem like a very interesting person ! Good luck in the forums ! 1 Character Backstory: http://mlpforums.com/blog/1210/entry-7077-a-life-without-limits/ You are stardust that’s beaten the odds and combined perfectly. You are both the moon you walk under and the ground you walk on. You are a part of it all, neither big nor small.

I've never roleplayed as Dragonheart, but I do run a DnD campaign on weekends XD Ah, so you're quite an experienced roleplayer then! Someone really needs to make a pony-themed DnD variant. Are you a microbiologist too @Flutterspark? I love hearing what other people are doing! No, I'm still in high school. (Well, I'm technically homeschooled.) Microbiology used to interest me a lot, however. Specifically virology. I think it's so cool that such a tiny machine can do so much! I'm into computer-type stuff now, but if I couldn't do something computer related, I would start studying microbiology. (It might be a bit late for me now, because I haven't done much biology stuff at all for a while.) If someone would care to develop programmable bacteria, I'd be sold....
Dragonheart 5 September 16, 2013 Author Share September 16, 2013 Thank you everypony for the compliments! @Flutterspark Virology is awesome! Its what got me interested first too! Funny you should mention programmable bacteria (does takes some stretching of the definition BUT) with all the advances in genetics over the past decade or so, there are entire companies devoted to changing bacteria for various purposes. I can find the papers if you'd like, but among other things, there's research NASA was doing to use E. coli DNA to make "living wires" to run computers built in space, there's the bacteria people are trying to get to produce compounds (mostly complex medical and plastic compounds) that nature never made before, the bacteria (that I helped work on XD ) that produce electricity from ocean sediments (they're trying to run off-shore equipment off them), the bacteria that convert soluble uranium to an insoluable form to be extracted from ground water, and the list goes on. Many of the things are just manipulations of what bacteria could already do, but right now the possibilities seem near endless . Did you know that insulin is mostly made from E. coli now, and has been for over a decade? In fact, many drugs are. Viruses are AMAZING tho, because they're not technically alive! Crazy at how efficient they are at what they do, tho! Computer stuff is awesome too! Two of my friends are computer security experts and another builds computers for fun. Myself, I am a klutz when it comes to doing ANY line command at all :/ If you want, I can get you in touch with them to find out what the field is really like. Myself, if you're interested anywhere in biology, I'd be happy to answer questions too! And don't worry about "not being on the right path"! There's no such thing as a right path. Myself, I entered undergrad with the full intention on becoming a historian at a museum... and ended up studying apple snails (invasive species the size of your fist)... and then went to grad school to study microbial biofuels... and five years later, I'm seriously considering being (at least a part time) artist. So, the short answer is (not trying to be cliché) but FOLLOW YOUR HEART! Do what makes you happy and don't be afraid to ask questions or afraid of what people will think, because at the end of the day, you only will be answering to yourself. 1 I hand-paint many pony items from pajama pants to messenger bags to aprons in my small business Mad Scientist's Lab! Interesting, I hadn't realised that! Good ol' E. coli, making us sick one moment, helping us the next. Viruses are AMAZING tho, because they're not technically alive! Crazy at how efficient they are at what they do, tho! Yeah, I agree! Kind of scary at times, too... Computer stuff is awesome too! Definitely!
