Mary-Sues

So I've been around the neighborhood lately, and I come to notice that people have a problem with these so called 'mary-sues'. I can understand their problem. No one wants a pony that's all godlike, and immortal. But it concerns me that people have a problem when their OCs are just not as powerful as the characters from the show, but more powerful than the avarage unicorn or pegasus.

So a unicorn knows how to shoot big lasers, or a pegasus can create a type of sonic boom. I don't think this should actually bother people. As I last recall, I know some canon characters that are mary-sues. Celestia and Luna of course, but they're the rulers. Twilight was a powerful unicorn, and no one seemed to have a problem with her being more powerful than the avarage one. When an OC does something like that, why do people complain? Yes, she was trained by Celestia, but she knew cool magic before being her student, she just didn't know how to control it.

If someone says their OC had years of practice, and had a hard time controlling it, it's no reason to complain. As far as their concern, they're just like Twilight. Same goes to pegasi, Rainbow being the fastest flyer in Equestria is only an opinion, not a fact. Lightning Dust was just as fast as her, and maybe even some Wonderbolts. Rainbow was never seen flying real fast with the wonderbolts other than it being a vision.

Pinkie Pie, and her ability to defy logic. As long as it's the only power a pony has, that can't be considered mary-suing.

I think you get the idea now. My point is, as long as an OC doesn't push it too far, there's no use complaining about their power. I mean, everyone does have their opinions and point of views, but this is just a message I want to bring out.

I don't think it makes sense to label the Mane Six as Mary Sues, because they are not perfect in every single way. A ''Mary Sue'' would have to be a character who is perfect in every single way, and does not have any problems or flaws. You can't classify a character as a
''Mary Sue'' if they are only referring to a character's trait.

Well, I know what you're saying, but I keep getting comments about my OC, and some comments about other OCs being considered mary-sue. My character, he knows good magic spells that took him years of practice, and he's not as good as Twilight. He's also coo-coo in the head and makes alot of mistakes, and they still call him mary-sue. Same goes with a friend of mine who was gifted with phoenix powers, but his powers are exhausting, and not easy to control. That's what I actually meant when I made this post. Something like that.

The people that are saying that, probably don't understand what a Mary Sue is. They would have to know what it is to begin with, just ignore what they are commenting on and if they don't agree with what you do ignore them.

I do ignore them, the comments don't really bother me. FIMFiction is full of trolls anyway. I'm just saying this because I just want to know if others think the same way is all. I'm only a little concern of why they say that. But like you said, they might not know what a mary-sue is. I know the people that say that don't take 'Love and Tolerance' seriously, which makes me think if that phrase is still out there. I really have no idea if the brony fandom is going wrong, or it's just that one website.
