LordDiscord 289 November 24, 2013 Share November 24, 2013 I am sure many of you know of this mischievous creature of chaos and I am sure many of you saw the season 4 premier, but if you haven't then you may not want to read any further from this point as I will be talking about spoilers from the two-part openers of season 4. [ SPOILERS AHEAD] While I am not going to become super judgemental until I have seen more of the season, I must say that the actions that happened in part two of the opener and Discords antics have left me a bit worried. As we know in the episode '' Keep calm and Flutter on'' marked the second time we saw the mischievous draconequus, but it also gave us a glimpse of a side of Discord we had not seen before and we were told that Discords reformation was to serve a purpose later on. Now as we skip over to the season 4 opener, we see that vines from the Everfree Forest is evading Equestria, but we also learn that it was ''Discord's FAULT''. Discords actions though funny did not give me a sign that his reformation was necessary as he did not do anything even though he knew what was happening. This brings me to my second point, why did the Elements of Harmony have to be sacrificed in the first place. I understand that they were become a bit redundant but I feel that the Mane 6 having to give up the elements was a plot device use to make Discords reformation relevant. When I saw this all that popped into my mind was a missed opportunity. I feel that had Discord not been reformed and was still stuck in stone and the weakening of the Tree of Harmony could have also weakened the bond of the elements allowing Discord to break free and them sacrificing the elements to save Equestria from the evil vines and revert Discord back to stone would have made a better reason to have to sacrifice them then just doing it to save the tree from something that Discord could have undone at a snap of his fingers. I can only pray that Discord becomes more involved in serious situations like this in the future or his reformation would have been for nothing. At this point it would have been more productive to still have him as a statue in the Canterlot garden then it would a ally if this is the way he is going to act. Though I have no problem with the way he acted and even really loved his shenanigans through out the episode I still feel that Discord should have displayed at least some worry or guilt about the Mane 6 seeing as this was his fault to begin with. I love Discord but his actions in this episode was a big change from his actions at the end of '' Keep calm and Flutter on'' and the fact that Twilight and the others are still don't trust him only adds fuels the question of why the reformed him to begin with. As I said before I am not judging the season in it entirety from these two episodes, I don't even hate them, in-fact I found them to be the best so far ( at least in my opinion anyways ) and have high hopes for the episodes to come. All in all it was a excellent opener and even though I am still a bit iffy about the elements sacrifice and Discords reformation as I feel that they did not really need to sacrifice the elements as they could have just retrieved them at the end, I mean the vines were destroyed and the tree was super charged by the elements so it would have had enough magic to keep the Everfree at bay without the elements seeing as the trees only real threat is now gone, but anyway that is just me rambling. If you enjoyed the episode or have any theories on what is in that lock box the tree sprouts then I would love to here them. Until then stay chaotic Muhahahhahahah! Nature's Spell 526 November 24, 2013 Share November 24, 2013 The show often just does stuff because it sounds good, rather than having strong linkage between episodes. The writers say they care about continuity, but it doesn't always show in the end results. Giving up the EOH was a surprising move, but I think a good one since they were becoming a Deus ex machina. As Discord himself asked mockingly: Blast the beastie with your magic necklaces, I presume? Even he knew that the EOH had served their purpose and it was time to move beyond them. It will be fun to see how it plays out. Eh. Discord wasn't reformed to be a new good guy, he was reformed to stop being the villain. As it stands, he is a neutral character, of whom has no loyalties to anyone other than say Fluttershy, whom he personally befriended, so I don't see why he should need to display this, that or the other thing, personally, especially considering how much he takes most things in stride. Being an omnipotent being tends to make it so you don't really worry or get anxious over much. Ergo why throughout the entire premiere, his constantly joking demeanor never once ceased.
Nature's Spell 526 November 24, 2013 Share November 24, 2013 I agree with Chaotic about Discord; once a troll always a troll. I also feel that the writers weren't happy with Keep Calm and Flutter On so they rebooted (as Digibrony put it) and made Discord into a friendenemy. I think he loves messing with ponies and takes particular joy in messing with Princess Twilight Sparkle. That's the irony outside of digi's argument about discord being evil I never really considered him evil, till saturday. he was laughing at twilight breaking down crying. He got a kick out of it. Like it was the greatest thing in the world to him. I mean even diamond tiara isn't that cruel (yet). I'm happy with the current discord. Discords new character is to search for that sweet spot with in the rules, that grey area. Which would make him lawful evil. Now that's entirely out of character LOL but i still like it. 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvTYhrZUgYY flight to the finish. i continue to improve,

Which is exactly why I never could stand to try and convince everyone complaining about how 'How can his character possibly be good if he's reformed'. This, here. Being a neutral character doesn't mean he isn't him anymore. It just means he is no longer going to be any kind of central antagonist. He can be that awesome reocurring character who pokes, prods and jabs the rules, pushes the limits and still does things the way he does them. Just not global takeover level, as to not arouse the ponies' need to stone him again.

I mean subjectively he's the cats pjs. Objectively, instead of being arguable neutral chaotic he's straight up evil now. He does less damage but he's a worse person. Why? cause he's inherited trollestia's place, and unlike her, he's damn cheeky about it, he's that one friend that knows just how far to push you and stops before you beat his ass. He's bender. We have a john delancy lawful evil bender. LordDiscord 289 November 24, 2013 Author Share November 24, 2013 (edited) Precisely. Just not global takeover level, as to not arouse the ponies' need to stone him again. I can understand this and even except it, but Celestia's purpose for reforming him was so his magic could be used for good. Even if Discord is in a kind of truce state with the ponies, it still does not excuse that his purpose for being free was to help in situations like this otherwise what was Celestias true purpose for wanting him reformed, she hated him, he was the only character she lost her cool to, so unless there is some significant threat that Celestia knows about and needs Discords help than I am completely stumped as to why she would reform him. Don't get me wrong, I love to see more Discord, but I feel that had Discord still been evil when these vines broke free and the weakening of tree, weakened the elements allowing him to escape. This would have made Discord the primary villain of the season 4 opener rather than some vines that Discord planted thousands of years ago. I just don't feel that vines were a worthy enough reason to give up the elements for but if it was the only way to stop Discord and save Equestia than that would have made their sacrifice more meaningful. I don't know, I guess I just want to see Discord play a more prominent role than just to be comic relief while the Mane 6 does all the work.
