"Why do you like this?"

People ask me that about a lot of things. Generally, I can anticipate that they're asking just to tear me down so I give a sarcastic aside glance and quip "Why does anyone like anything? It's enjoyable."

But sometimes, if they seem sincerely curious, I'm more generous than that. Sometimes I'll explain, as in MLP's case, about how the characters are well-made, the world interesting, the lore engaging, the art appealing, and the stories and atmosphere all-around fun...


When this fails, most would just give up. Me? I have a backup plan. When actually going into detail of the show's many good qualities fails...I simply state "Any show that can result in something this badass can't possibly be that awful." and show them something like this:




That thing looks like a beast out of a Bethesda title or the pages of some epic fantasy novel. And it comes from a pony cartoon. That is, in a word, awesome. (Sidenote: Sometimes I lament how goofy Discord looks in-universe...This is one of those times. What could have been...)

True, some people ask that question to shun others and to have their entertainment tastes 'validated' (which is silly IMO), though sometimes they're genuinely curious. Sometimes, something is so bad to someone that they couldn't understand why anyone would like it.
