Dsanders 5,747 February 15, 2014 Share February 15, 2014 Female worship becomes a major issue on many online sites that are dominated by men who are single. The problem usually is that women are given a free pass mostly because well.. To put it bluntly, a lot of guys want to score brownie points with the few ladies who share their interests. I personally have seen this kind of thing completely destroy entire communities, however unfortunately there is little actual science behind it. Though experiments have been conducted that more or less suggest that women get away with many more actions online than men do. This essentially means any troll posing as female already has a severe advantage if any of this is true. If you're saying another reason is that the fandom is mostly males, yeahh, that's something I won't dispute. Don't see how the female card works, though; there's probably dudes posing as females on this site that will read this very sentence sooner or later, and I do believe females get preferential treatment in terms of brohoofs, popularity, etc., around here, I've always said that. Anyway, the only reason I'm making a post completely agreeing with you is so I won't get off-topic and so I could say I filled out your survey, and one of the questions bothered me; "Do you get bullied for being a brony more than anything else?" I think is what it was. Ummm...I had to say yes, because I can't say I've gotten bullied for anything else. I just thought that was sort of a hole in the question and I thought I'd point that out ^This. Likewise to what ghosty stated here, I have too noticed that female members here tend to receive a more preferential treatment in terms of popularity. It's a little annoying to be honest, but from what you explain here, it all seems to make much more sense now as to why that is. However, I have never heard of females purposely using the treatment to their own selfish advantage (e.g. trolls posing as females). Though I admit, it is possible, I do not think there is anyway to resolve that sort of dilemma.
SunsetDemon 31 February 15, 2014 Share February 15, 2014 (edited) Besides Fox News, the only other person in the media who I know that hates bronies is Ghost! I heard one of his rants in an opening to YouTube Poop News: "GOOD MORNING ALL YOU F***ING BRONIES OUT THERE, WATCHING THE D**N SHOW, AND NOW YOU'RE GONNA GET UPSET ABOUT ME BEING A F***ING RACIST, WHEN I'M SO F***ING NOT! IF YOU F***ING RACIST HAMBONE TROLLS DON'T STOP IT RIGHT NOW, I'M GONNA START SPAMMING MY WASTEPILES AT YOU! AAAAAAAAH...I HATE BRONIES! I'M SO NOT FEEDING THE G*****N TROLLS!" Plus, like the story of that boy who nearly died because of suicide because he was bullied for liking the show, some people call the show gay, when it really isn't. Why do people do that??? Is it because of Rainbow Dash (BTW, a rainbow symbolizes gays)? Edited February 15, 2014 by CurePrincess "I am your princess now, and you will be loyal to me!" Same for men who collect Barbie's etc. So it's only natural that people think bronies are like that too.
Page.Turner 940 February 15, 2014 Share February 15, 2014 The biggest thing that bothers me about the majority of bronies is that they think they're super duper special and unique just because they are male and enjoy MLP. They also have this delusion that just because they are special snowflakes, it's the ONLY reason people hate on bronies. Ugh. I say majority because it's honestly the opinion that a vast amount of bronies I've ever met have bragged about. Especially on this website. There are many reasons that bronies are hated. I'll list some of them: A lot of bronies try to force the show on other people like some elitist cult Some bronies force MLP into every other fandom they can The Rule34 is commonly as controversial as a lot of furry art The lack of respect shown to the LGBT community with brony "coming out" stories The Tumblr blog run by a majority of male bronies who believe MLP is "sexist" towards the male gender and how "unfair" it is that males are not as featured on the show and try to think of headcanons that make male ponies so much better than females that the females have to "keep them in check" out of fear. Yuck. Like I said before, the majority of bronies who throw around their Brony Badge like they're better than anyone else because they break social norms The bronies who hate on other bronies (which happens a lot) etc All of this is pretty interchangeable between many fandoms and the list could go on forever, in my mind, but the point I'm trying to make is that the brony fandom has such a red mark against them because of all these idiots who make up the majority. It's not 50/50. It's not even 70/30. The majority of bronies, the 90/10, are assholes and it shows. A lot. And often. So of course people are going to get the wrong impression when you identify as a brony; the same that when people hear the word furry, the worst things come to mind. It's not even the media's fault, wholly. They play a role in this, but it's probably about 5% of the problem. I don't hate bronies, I hate specific people. To generalize any fandom is wrong because even if 99.99% of bronies were bad? There is still 0.01% that is good, at least. In conclusion [tl;dr], I believe that the hate towards the fandom should not be directed at the fandom itself but rather to the people who deserve it. A brony who is sexist and advocates rape culture was doing that long before he became a brony. So no, bronies are not bad, people are bad. 1 ... Yeah I have noticed the people who are actually being progressive don't bear the name, "brony". Any time I point out bad things bronies are doing, they are quick to respond with "that's the minority", yet these things are becoming increasingly easier to find. I used to have to dig to find bronies doing something hateful or stupid, now I just log onto any social medium they use and I'll find something within 5 minutes.
