I want to post a topic about alternate careers that a pony's skills could take them, and I think it's character analysis and belongs on the show discussion board, however, my example would be "Octavia in the orchestra that plays the Tom & Jerry music", so I'm not sure if that belongs in the Everfree Forest.

If it's got an explicit link to FiM (such as your case) then it's all good for Show Discussion. The Everfree Forest encompasses things whose primary focus isn't at all pony-related (apart from some instances like the Cute Pony Pictures thread) - in your case, it's about the characters from the show, so it wouldn't go there.
