Tone Shift 57 March 19, 2014 Share March 19, 2014 So, I made this piece of music while thinking about a scene in a fanfic I'm writing. I do that, sometimes. Amazingly, this piece of music, with a bit of help from a friend, became something worth sharing. it's a bit repetitive, true, but I think it's cool. I don't have it anywhere else, so I'm just going to attach the mp3 to this post. So, tell me what you think! PS: Don't expect MUCH music for me. it isn't a passion or even a hobby of mine. I really just doodle with instruments and sometimes I get something cool. Tone Shift 57 April 12, 2014 Author Share April 12, 2014 Um... wow, I actually got a reply. Thank you. I was not expecting anyone to actually like it. I guess if one person enjoys it, though, that's good. I Perform Fanfiction Readings on YouTube, complete with sound effects, music, and an effort to instill emotion into the narration. child of the night 271 April 12, 2014 Share April 12, 2014 I have to say all in all it was a very good song but it was a bit to repetitive, some of the notes were out of key. either the violin or the piano felt out of place, and the sci-fi effect in the end didn't really belong. However this is just constructive criticism, I quite liked its dark tone and I feel it could become better if you worked a bit on it. Don't take what I say as a bad thing please, and keep on making music, the only way to get better is practice!
Courageous Thunder Dash 7,824 April 12, 2014 Share April 12, 2014 A good start The piano is okay at the begining, but because it's Discord, it could use some dissonant chords after each repetition. To me, the violins feel a little out-of-place. Honestly, I would a warm synth pad in place of the violins, or very high-quality synth strings at best. Plus, you had most of the strings playing the same thing. It would've been really effective if you put low drone strings playing notes like G# and B (knowing this piece is in G# minor). Towards the end, when you changed to e minor, it just seemed like repetative chords. You had the piano and strings doing almost the same thing, You could've had the strings split into four different groups, which I highly suggest this be done. I It feels to simple to be Discord. It feels more like a stroll through the Everfree. What would make this piece more like a stroll with Discord is 1. The addition of dissonant chords (Remember, Discord represents chaos, and in music, dissonance is the disagreeable effect you get when combining certain notes. It represents tension. 2. Complexity: The whole melody could be more complex overall with arpeggios on the low end of the piano in between the melody. if you were to keep the melody the same, it needs some things in between, like dissnonant chords. They don't have to show out. 3. Variace: This is perhaps the biggest thing that this piece lacks. To me, I just seems like broken chords put to a little melody. I honestly could not find a main melody. Unfortunately, I'm gonna have to say this: You're gonna have to redo this piece and work on it so that way it would come out better, using this advice. By no means, this isn't meant to belittle you. 3/10 Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeWg-TtBRMfqketa1ELyKGg Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/menelik-david-kenneth-cannady 2nd SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/thunder-dash-alternative/tracks Pony.fm: https://pony.fm/thunder-dash
