Just the opening to a fanfic I might not make

In a different world, in a different time, different ponies lived as separate tribes. Of earth ponies, pegasi unicorns and others. A time where each tribe faced their problems and their challenges as their own. This was before the dawn of civilization; a time where all the tribes lived as nomads, always migrating according to seasonal patterns and according to what the current and nearest habitats had to offer.

But life was hard. For there were monsters that preyed upon each of the pony tribes, terrorizing each and every pony. There were parasites that spread disease and occasionally, famine. But did it have to be this way?

I've had this idea for a fanfic that takes place in its separate universe for some time now but as others have said in a certain thread of mine, it's hard to pull off.

 

If you think you've gotten the gist of what the setting is like then I did I good job of conveying just that.
