Advice for pony vectors and digital art?

Colorful Respawn

Recommended Posts

I want to draw ponies digitally like as vectors. Here are some questions that I have for the experienced artists, feel free to move this topic if it doesn't belong here, thanks!

Questions:

1) What program is best for making pony vectors?

2) Do I need an iPad, or some other device to make vectors?

3) Could I get a sample of what a vector should look like?

Thanks for your help! :)

Hi , I've moved your topic from General Discussion to Creative Resources as it involves asking for help with artistic matters. General Discussion is for discussion topics that do not fit in other sections.

You can read more about this in the Octavia's Hall guide.

1.) Adobe Illustrator / Inkscape

2.) No.

3.) It should be a rather large image with a transparent background. By transparent I mean no background, so the background will look like a checkers board.

1. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop or SAI (Illustrator is preferred for vectors however.)

2. No, you may have confused iPad with a drawing tablet.  A drawing tablet is generally preferred for digital art.  Here's a link to the Wacom website.  They make drawing tablets.  I have a Wacom for my art.  Peruse the site and you'll understand why I think you got confused with an iPad and a tablet.  http://www.wacom.com/en/us?gclid=COyz_MO8ub0CFUJqfgod_YgAfw

3. A vector is a resizable image similar to that of a font in a .ttf format.  A vector, however, does not require it to be in a .ttf format.  Here's an example of a vector.  http://th02.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/i/2012/225/7/9/twilight_sparkle_by_sulyo-d5ar835.png

Ok, thanks so much. I really want to get started with fan art, but I don't have a drawing tablet, yet.
