Batmare Begins: Chapters 1-6 Revised

Hello all, Batbrony here with some exciting news! After months of hard work, I have finally completed a massive editing job on the first six chapters of my first and (to date) only fanfiction, Batmare Begins. It's considerably shorter now by a few thousand words, and has been stripped of much troublesome junk, such as needless details, pointless adverbs, and worst of all, LUS (Lavender Unicorn Syndrome, i.e. the tendency to describe characters as, for example, "the lavender unicorn", "the grey f

Batbrony Reviews "S04:E25+26 - Twilight's Kingdom"

Well... it finally happened. After over two years, I now have a new favorite episode. "The Return of Harmony", you had a fantastic run, really, you did. But after Season 4's finale, I simply can't deny it: "Twilight's Kingdom" is, officially, my new favorite episode of the show. The thing that I find most fascinating about this is how very different both episodes are, but I'll cover that in a bit. Right now, in addition to reviewing just what makes "Twilight's Kingdom: Parts 1 and 2" such phenom

Batbrony Reviews "S04:E24 - Equestria Games"

Ah, apologies for the late review everypony! Ironically enough, I was actually running a 5k this morning, and that's why I missed the episode when it aired. Even better, I actually placed! Got third in my age group (men, 19-24) with a time of 23:00.9, and got a medal and everything!!!     Look, it's so shiny!   Anyways, let's get to this review proper. I'll try to keep my "Equestria Games" review fairly concise, mostly because there was a lot going on. So, without further

Batbrony Reviews "S04:E23 - Inspiration Manifestation"

NOTE: Apologies for getting this blog published so late. I was just waiting for the art above to get posted on DeviantArt and it took longer than usual.   OK, so this episode was... strange. Not everything about it was bad, but it was just, I don't know, strange is all. Don't get me wrong, the premise itself is fine, and I don't mind the show going into fairly dark territory in showing a character becoming completely corrupted by an artifact containing dark magic, but the execution in many pla

Batbrony Reviews "S04:E22 - Trade Ya"

Well, well, well, after a week off from our regularly scheduled dose of ponies, MLP returned with quite the treat for us with "Trade Ya"! I for one adored this episode; I know it didn't have the most serious message in the world, and for some there might have been some pacing issues, but I for one love it when we have just plain ol' silly, random, nonsense once in awhile. On top of that, this was a Mane 6 ensemble episode to boot, and in my opinion it was funnier than both "Castle Mania" or "P

Batbrony Reviews "S04:E21 - Testing, Testing, 1, 2, 3"

Oh finally, I apologize for not getting this out sooner everypony. Life's just been crazy lately, ya know? Anyways, let's get this review going. "Testing, Testing, 1, 2, 3" was a delightful episode; not only probably Rainbow Dash's best of the season, but one of the best episode's of the season all around. Since there's quite a bit to cover I'll try to keep everything as concise as possible.   Just sit back and relax, students, it's time to learn!!!   First of all, as I said, th

Please Vote for Derpy: A Humble Beseech From A Derp Knight

Brothers and sisters of MLP Forums, I beckon you all, come forward and hear my words! Listen to what I have to say, and maybe, just maybe, you will be there for a certain grey mare in her hour of need. I can only hope.   Note: If you're not in the mood for reading this bit, I've gone and actually recorded myself reading it as well, if you're in the mood for a more audio experienced. Be warned, however, for I've been known to make those with weaker constitutions swoon in the past with my me

Batbrony Reviews "S04:E20 - Leap of Faith"

So unsurprisingly, like pretty much every episode she's had this season (not counting "Bats!", but that episode's promblems weren't AJ's fault :okiedokielokie:), Applejack had yet another awesome turn in a starring role. "Leap of Faith" was the fifth key episode we've had this season, and like most of them (with the exception of "It Ain't Easy Being Breezies", bleh ), it was solid in every sense of the word. Not a whole lot to talk about here aside from the episode's superb message and execution

Batbrony Reviews "S04:E19 - For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils"

Apologies once again for the delayed review ya'll, I had work yesterday from 11-5 and didn't get around to watching the episode until late on Saturday night. After watching it twice already, however, I am pleased to say that I have nothing but good things to say about "For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils" (except maybe for the terribly punny episode title; seriously, worst ponified title since "Sleepless in Ponyville", but hey, that episode rocked as well ).   Anyways, let's get going with this t

Batbrony Reviews "Puella Magi Madoka Magica": Characters, Part 3: Sayaka Miki

The third entry of my series will take a look at Madoka's BFF Sayaka Miki (and trust me, I know there's A LOT of Sayaka-fans out there, including my bro DF, so I assure you all that I will do my best to do sweet Sayaka justice ).   Characters   Sayaka Miki, a.k.a. Batbrony Reviews "S04:E18 - Maud Pie"

Sorry for the late review everypony. I was volunteering at a local museum this morning (which really wasn't as fun as it sounds, the event was super slow and had very light attendance, but eh, what can you do?), and after that I had to run some errands with my mom. But I finally got around to the episode late in the afternoon. So what did I think? Overall... solid average episode, but... it should have been a good episode. So let's begin by covering the good before I go over what I think brings

Sorry for the delay on this second entry my friends and fellow fans of "Puella Magi Madoka Magica". Without further ado, here's my review of Mami Tomoe.   Characters   Mami Tomoe, a.k.a. "Most Stylish Magical Girl", "Best and Worst Magical Girl Salesman", and "Worst at Not *puts on shades* Losing Her Head, BAZING!!! " (please don't kill me for that last one Sugar Cube )

Batbrony Reviews "S04:E17 - Somepony to Watch Over Me"

I've seen a large number of people express great dislike for "Somepony to Watch Over Me", specifically for what they describe as OOC actions from Applejack. Honestly, I couldn't disagree more, but I will concede that I can see why people would miss it. At the same time, I think that if one reads between the lines enough, you can see why her behavior here would make sense. So without further ado, let's begin my review of "Somepony to Watch Over Me".   Well I suppose based on that introduction t

Batbrony Reviews "Puella Magi Madoka Magica": Introduction and Characters, Part 1: Madoka Kaname

So for months now, my best bud DashForever has been urging me to check out the anime "Puella Magi Madoka Magica". Welp, I finally did. So what's my consensus?   This show... is without a doubt the finest anime I've ever seen. Now, before I go any further, let me just say this, so that people are aware going ahead some things about myself before they read my opinions on the show. I would not consider myself an otaku in any sense of the word; while I enjoy great anime when I find them, I do not

Batbrony Reviews "S04:E16 - It Ain't Easy Being Breezies"

Note: Sorry it took me a few days to get this blog up ya'll. Just hadn't made time for it is all, my bad.   OK, well, this review should be pretty short. Not that the episode was bad or anything, it accomplished what it wanted and needed to just fine. But for a key episode, or an episode in general, "It Ain't Easy Being Breezies" was just pretty boring and forgettable, despite doing some things quite well. So, without further ado, let's get started.   First I guess we'll cover Fluttershy and

Batbrony Reviews "S04:E15 - Twilight Time"

Alrighty, "Twilight Time", boy oh boy this was a fun episode! I'll start by saying that I think it's safe to say that the ridiculous streak of awesome episodes that started with "Rarity Takes Manehattan" has officially come to an end, but really that's not a bad thing. Season 2 had streaks of its own, and that's arguably the best season of MLP so far. Every great show, in my honest opinion, achieves a balance in quality; sure you'll have great episodes, maybe even a run of great episodes, but

Batbrony Reviews "S04:E14 - Filli Vanilli"

"Filli Vanilli"... so this episode was surprisingly good. I mean, no, good doesn't do it justice, this was a legitimately great episode that, going in, I didn't really know how to feel about. Let me start by saying this: I called from the very second I saw the premise for this episode that it would be about Fluttershy overcoming stage fright. I bucking called it, and I'm sure plenty of other bronies did as well. And I groaned and moaned and worried that it would just be another retreading of

Down to business...   Hiya everypony, it's me, your favorite mailmare Derpy!!!     I've just borrowed this kind fellow's laptop for a bit so I could make an entry in his blog (for very important-mom reasons as you'll see in a second). How did I do that? Oh it wasn't that hard, just took some potion Princess Sparkle made that lets ponies "cross over into different dimensions" or something like that. Only cost me 5 bits, what a

Batbrony Reviews "S04:E13 - Simple Ways"

First of all, I want to start this review by apologizing for the uncharacteristic delay in getting it out. My little sister was home from college for the weekend, so my mom and I were pretty busy doing stuff with her, like watching the Olympics or going to a local ice carving festival, these past couple days, not to mention I had work yesterday. But enough about that, let's talk "Simple Ways"! In my humble opinion, we got yet another home-run this week! I'm not going to go so far as to say t

"Pinkie Pride"... so this episode was fun. Welp that's it, review over...     Oh calm your shorts, I kid, I kid (and I also communicate with Internet gifs, so what does that say about me? Can't be anything good). Whatever, let's get this review going proper.   Do I even need to start by mentioning that the ungodly streak of hits DHX has been throwing our way ever since "Rarity Takes Manehattan" (and yes, I still consider "Rainbow Falls" to be among that group of elites despite the f

Batbrony Reviews "S04:E11 - Three's a Crowd"

OK, "Three's a Crowd" was a hoot and a holler, no denying that. I'd say it was probably the silliest episode we've had this season since "Castle Mane-ia", or maybe "Power Ponies", and maybe the funniest episode out of those three. Despite having a giant action sequence between two alicorns and a giant worm, the episode somehow turned out to be a lovely little slice of life episode far sillier than most, and very unique from most in that we got a combination of main characters that we usually d

Batbrony Reviews "S04:E10 - Rainbow Falls"

And the streak continues, my gosh is Season 4 on a roll!!! Though "Rainbow Falls" may have been the most divisive episode of the last three, largely because of its theme and the execution of said theme, after having watched it twice and put quite a bit of thought into it, I actually think this episode wasn't as bad for Rainbow Dash's character as some people seem to think it was (though I understand why they would think so). We've got A LOT to cover in this one, so let's get going; seeing as the

Batbrony's Immediate Thoughts on "Lone Survivor"

So today, I just saw Universal Pictures' Lone Survivor. I'm not going to do a full review or anything, but all I will say is that it was one of the finest war films I have seen in a long, long time. I liked the movie Act of Valor, but honestly, Lone Survivor was the movie that Act of Valor wanted to be; a heartfelt tribute to the Navy Seals and the unbelievably superhuman tasks required of them. The movie portrayed a wide array of themes and truths; the incredible brotherhood that each and every
