Season Four fixes Season Three's Rarity problems
Just so you know, I'm perfectly aware that "Inspiration Manifestation" is not out yet, and that S4 isn't done yet, either. However, what I can tell you is that Season Four fixed the one problem Season Three, and that was a lack of a Rarity episode.
Back then, Season One was the season of Rarity, having five episodes focusing on her compared to the other Mane Six having between three and four. And, out of those five episodes, she shared four with Spike, Applejack, Fluttershy, and Rainbow Dash. She had so much spotlight, that it's no wonder everyone keeps calling Applejack a background pony. By the time Season Two came out, though, it was the season of the Cutie Mark Crusaders, and that Rarity would play a role in three episodes, two of which she shared with Sweetie Belle, followed by Spike.
But then Season Three dropped the ball. With only thirteen episodes, the writers were given limited creativity toward making each episode. Plus, "Spike, At Your Service" was meant to be a Rarity episode, but she was too mean and manipulative to Spike, so they switched it to an Applejack episode. Since then, the only time I ever got to see a focus on Rarity was ironically from the comics, including her own issue in the MLP mini-series, plus the four-part "Nightmare Rarity" arc.
But still, when Season Four was about to come out, I had doubts about it. Season Three was disappointing not only because of the lack of a Rarity episode, but because of its limited creativity as a result of being thirteen episodes long, as well as "Magical Mystery Cure's" rushed ending that never explained Twilight's new life as an alicorn princess. Plus, we had "Equestria Girls", which substituted ponies for humans, even though MLP works best as a magical fairy tale populated by talking horses, and not as some modern-day high-school drama populated by not-as-charming humans.
Due to these problems, I thought they would be carried over to Season Four, while adding a variety of entirely new problems. But, as it turns out, Season Four was not disappointing whatsoever, save for probably a few convoluted clusterbuck episodes like "Daring Don't" and "It Ain't Easy Being Breezies". And, it appeared that we would have four Rarity episodes as well, two of which she shared with Applejack and Sweetie Belle, and the third she'll share with Spike. Sure, it's one less episode than the five episodes Applejack will receive in S4, but at least it fixed all the problems of Season Three in-terms of Rarity focus.
I know I keep beating this Rarity topic to death, but that's how I feel right now. In reality, I just want to see the Mane Six receive equal attention to each other, despite one of them having five episodes compared to two of them having four and the other two three. If any time at least one of those ponies don't get the attention they deserve, like what happened to Rarity in S3, then the Mane Six focus ratio would be imbalanced. All six of the Mane ponies are important in their own way, even if one of their own magically grew a pair of wings and technically became the equivalent of a demi-god, minus the immortality (as stated in one of Meghan McCarthy's tweets, BTW).
