Now im confused... do you think it's a problem that people thought you would be serious, or is it a problem that you think that Rarity talks too much about fashion?

I'm the problem, me thinks. I've been way too critical of the show as of late (though I do think it's a sign of a weaker episode when all Rarity talks about is fashion-related things).

I do admit, I like it when she's actively involved in her dressmaking process - much artistry to be had there - but when she just casually criticizes the fashion sense of others, it does get old pretty quick. It'd be like if I were to visit Octavia and Vinyl and be like, "Oh no, dah'ling, you mustn't use a half-diminished seventh chord there, it totally ruins the mood! You need to flat the seventh and make it fully diminished so that it can really bring out the overlying melody!"

 

...Pretty sure I'd get a brohoof to the face. :T

Oh, she's absolutely great to watch in that mode. I'm talking about how, in some scripts, she relates everything going on around her to fashion and it feels forced, like how Dash calls everything awesome all the time when the writers can't figure out what to make her said.

 

Not that I have a problem with Rarity talking about fashion if it seems like effort was put into her dialogue, like in the last episode where she's talking about real fashion terms and it has something to do with the scene at hand and it's funny.

Well, i feel that is the problem that season four sometimes has, characters in episodes where they are not really needed.

 

And characters that are not really needed for the story still have to say SOMETHING, and thats often fashion in Rares case, or Rainbow saying "awesome", or something like that.

 

Something basic that connects to their character, so that people don't ask themself "Why is this character even in this episode?"

 

Don't know why they did this this season. Putting characters in storys they dont really matter in.

I'm just gonna say what a gem this blog is. It's so rare that I come across entries like this that subvert my expectations. I like that you dressed up this entry one way, than shot it down with your creativity. It's such a fabulous, monumental post that it would be "THE. WORST. POSSIBLE. THING." if a ton of these were on the front page.
